More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
People talk about feels, I think, when a cartoon or a video game makes them sad because a character died, but people talk about feelings when they have real issues. :)

btw that reminds me: I hope Aerith comes back to life in Final Fantasy VII part 2 just so she can get killed again and make fanboys cry some more. :) How many faceless mooks did Cloud cleave in half with a sword that weighs twice as much as he does?

It's because she is cloud's mystical tragic love interest or something and usually those types survive to the end to give the hero a big kiss. Not that Cloud's pork rod doesn't find its way into other places in a suitably dramatic time and place.

For many people, Final Fantasy VII was their first JRPG or maybe even video game RPG in general. I don't think they knew that characters occasionally get offed in them, so Aerith's death was a bit of a shock.
I doubt Aerith will ever come back to life in the standard sense of the word. She seems to be doing fine operating from within the ether. Any appearances are likely to be more as Cloud's helpful spirit guide.
I generally use my dad's razor, assuming that I give myself a proper shave; mostly I just use an electric razor to significantly lower the stubble when it gets too itchy and looks funny. That said, from time to time I just get fed up and shave, and I think I look pretty decent when I do, if weirdly young and initially a bit razor-burned.

Maybe now that there are more common place, but their weren't a ton back then and even what little of the Final Fantasy series there where didn't really include any important characters dying.
Phantasy Star did, but neither Phantasy Star nor the existing Final Fantasy games saw nearly as much exposure as Final Fantasy VII.

Like, what if every time you kill someone in a video game, you get to see their name and a description of their life story? People might feel bad about it, yes? Of course, I realize it's just a silly game so I don't care when people die in video games, even if the character is humanized and relatable in some way. I would torture and starve my Sims and not even care lol.

originally in the first Austin Powers every time a mook was killed it'd cut to his family and friends being notified.

This could be very effective depending on the game.
That said, sometimes all you need is faceless mooks. The Mario series doesn't need to grapple with the morals of Mario committing turturicide and mycelicide to save one girl.
Personally, though, I prefer to believe that death in the Mario verse is not death as we know it. There, it's a sort of temporary condition that is reset as soon as...well, as soon as the level resets.

No one ever dies in Touhou either. Except there was some confusion about Yuki and Mai being dead; I am not sure if that was ever cleared up or not. It is possible I suppose, as Touhou can actually be really dark underneath the cutesy, silly surface. ^_^

Ugh, can this week be over already? I just need time to, like, crash. -_-
I guess I can do a mini-crash when I get home from work, but I don't know if it will be satisfying

I'm fairly sure the RPG side-series have had characters killed off for real (e.g. Dimentio)

^^^ omg they are basically telling people not to buy their new system. They should be re-designing it because it is an understatement to call a game console that will not play any games unless it's on the internet "retarded."

Welp, I'm off to work, I guess.
Wonder how long I'll be there. Last night I was there till 10, which is unusually late for me.
I'm getting a new computer. Actually, it's a windows 98; which, to me, is very new. Especially compared to La Computadora.
My mother had to extensively modify LC to get her to be internet-compatible.
La Computadora has an eight-inch floppy port. I like to put stuff on my rather large collection of Burroughs 1 MB; and my collections of DSSD and DSDD (the big guns!) because yeah. It doesn't have USB ports because those are crap and you know it.
Nova Computadorus will be able to run a CD! I'll be able to play Planescape:Torment, with it's mind-shatteringly good graphics (Look, I'm used to Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones).

Never bought a razor. I either borrow Dad's or use scissors.
Nevertheless, happy day, Naney

jRPGs are epic sagas and I thought people knew that even the main characters die a lot in stories like that.
Yes imipolex pork rod. Most jRPG main protagonists have one. :p
