    You know

I'm wondering if Chrysler's new entry-level marque should have a name other than "Plymouth"

I get the feeling that not a lot of people have fond memories of the Plymouth marque

The youth-oriented Scion competitor would have a name, and "Valiant" is out because it's apparently too stodgy

And it's probably got a little too much machismo anyway...

Being "controversial" sort of requires people actually caring about what you have to say.

Yeah, and it also requires you to not just say stupid things.

    Otherwise I would be controversial.

    i changed my screen resolution to 1024 x 768

i like the more square-ish aspect ratio

This is probably true, unfortunately. :(

I always liked the 4:3 aspect ratio better than the 16:9 aspect ratio, myself.

It was always disappointing that TVs and computer screens widened to match movie screens instead of movie screens getting taller to match TVs and computers. :\

So anyway, I got that Blu-Ray player I've been wanting for just $4 earlier....I had enough rewards points on my credit card to get it. I'm watching TNG on Netflix now.

(The Netflix prints are based on the DVD release, and the transfer is awful. It looks like they used the Betacam syndie masters to make them. :P You can really see it on the credits; the dot crawl from the Chyron they used to generate them sticks out like a sore thumb.)

Does he rescue the Fat princess?

I saw TNG on Netflix a few months ago...the picture quality was, to me, passable...

It might also be my TV doing it; the panel in it isn't very good (it looks grainy). I should try this on the Asus and see if it improves things.

Yes, there is nothing wrong with fat princesses.

Sadly I am too thin to be his princess, but not too thin for other things. >:3

    Yes.
  • Turtles.

As noted previously, I'm watching the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and so far it's pretty uneven. "Encounter at Farpoint" is a good introduction, if a little cheesy in places and a bit too long. "The Naked Now" is just...bad. It doesn't take itself anywhere near seriously enough, it screws around with characters in bad ways (since when can a robot become infected with a biological virus?), and you know you have a bad episode when the scenes with Wesley are the most watchable.

  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
The first season of TNG seems to be not well regarded in general.

It's been a zillion years since I saw any of those episodes, though.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Yeah, the first season on the whole is pretty...meh. Not horrible, but they certainly could have done better. (And later on, they did, but I haven't gotten that far yet.)
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I just tried to watch "Code of Honor", and UGH NO. I skipped it. :P
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I couldn't make it through Encounter at Farpoint in part because I wasn't in the mood for it at the time and I had to deal with drama here...
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
You know, compared with some other places, our drama tends to be pretty small-scale.

    I am thankful for that.

    Yes.

    On occasion.

    Eh, that's an infamous one...

You know, I was a rather young kid when those episodes first aired, and even I could tell that that one wasn't a good idea.

I actually don't remember a lot of the early episodes well, since I really started watching the series in 1990 or 1991. That said, yeah, the next episode ("The Last Outpost") has a far less awful premise; it's still cheesy in the same way as Farpoint, but it also has the Ferengi in it, and I always did like them.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I always thought the Ferengi were kinda goofy.

And yes Mojave, that is me, you have discovered my true identity
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Yeah, they're goofy and silly, more like something out of The Muppet Show than serious sci-fi, but then, that's why I like them. XD
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
And yeah, going through the episode list, the 1990-1991 and 1991-1992 seasons are the ones I remember best.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
That's when the show became actually good and popular

I've noticed that things on Netflix seem to vary in quality a great deal.

Watching Mission Impossible 4 was kinda obnoxious because it was below blu-ray quality and also in stereo.

Yes, I'm a media purist even when it comes to films I don't care that much about.

Stereo I don't mind so much, since my speakers are only 2.1 anyway. Visual quality is definitely an issue, though I noticed that when the HD is done well, it really looks good. White Christmas is a movie that looks good on Netflix, for example, though I admit I watched it on the parents' 720p screen and not my 1080p screen.
