Also, people who think of themselves as intelligentsia tend to be pretentious and self-important in any field.

Well now I wouldn't say that.

  • whooo torrential downpour.
  • it seems to be letting up a bit

listening to Nadja while it was pouring sheets was interesting in an apocalyptic sorta way.

In other news, I sound like a total derp when I'm tired. People have pointed out that I have trouble with reading comprehension when I'm tired, too.

You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
    I'm an awakemare now

My mind wants out of this body

Why do I have to have a body anyway

It seems like a punishment somehow

I think this is true of most people.

    I'm an awakemare now

My mind wants or off this body

Why do I have to have a body anyway

For it to be a punishment, there would have to be a foul deed you were being punished for.

    That's not a good tendency.

I need to stop doing that.

I do recognize that not all tradition is good.  Rattlesnake Roundups is a tradition, slavery and caste systems are tradition, etc.  Just because it's tradition doesn't make it good.

Maybe we should learn from the past and build upon the knowledge of the past, but also innovate; rather than stagnating in ancestor-worship and nostalgia or rushing forward in novelty-worship and having to make things from scratch.

I guess we should test the common knowledge and facts, and try to add to knowledge.

I mean, every tradition was once an innovation, and innovations eventually become tradition.

    Like a jorgumand.

I sent a PM to Eliezer Yudkowsky on TvTropes asking why the 15th biggest poster on Less Wrong was a proud fascist.

Yudkowsky's ideas make no sense in the real world, but they're good material for books.

    So many little circles...

If Eliezer Yudkowsky is famous, I may be Stephen King.

our house is like the free house for neighbourhood cats though. we dont feed them but they just chill in the house because we leave the back door open when its warm

If I am Stephen King, I should sue the creators of Alan Wake.

Not just for infringement of my likeness, but for making an awful, awful game.

Well, perhaps "way more influential than someone that batshit crazy has any right to be" is more accurate, but I would say that he has some degree of fame, at least by proxy via his connection to Ray Kurzweil...
  • If Eliezer Yudkowsky is famous, I may be Stephen King.

What do you think of the new Carrie remake, Mr. King?

    I curse it.

Incidentally, this is the plot for my next novel.

see it's funny because Stephen King is a hack who has recycled the same half-dozen ideas for all of his work.

    EliezerYudkwosky.

    Creative, he is not.

Counterpoint: some of the Dark Tower series.

Wouldn't that be the sign of a great salesperson.

Not very often can someone sell the same thing to the same people.

    Unless you're EA of course.

    To the first: Pfft...

To the second, I would counter that by pointing out that even in his early novels he was basically recycling not just his own plots, but other people's: IT has the same basic premise as Peter Straub's Floating Dragon (which is awesome), with many of King's later novels sharing that blueprint.

But to counter that, his short stories are consistently above average, if not generally my cup of tea.
  • To quote Raocow "Some stupid french canadian guy who plays video games for the internet"

I wonder what kind of score, the SMW Stephan King got.
