Yay, I was reading Snopes and I got one of those dumb "FEMA banned this video" ads...the link leads to one of those sites that sit there and drone about alarmist claptrap for the better part of an hour (or so I've heard) before doing one of two things:
Trying to sell you gold or silver;
Trying to sell you "the world's best survival guide", stuff you could easily find online for free in several places.
Ps. Naney, the reason you lost 100 points is because of the use of the phrase "Son of a bitch" an insult that quite literally relies on the belittlement of a female, rather than trying to slur against the target itself.

I do worry that I'm not imaginative enough to offer anything meaningful
Like, I see all the stuff people on MyFonts come up with and it's hailed as a new take on the same old serif canon and how am I supposed to break through? Do I just not pay close enough attention to things? Do I need experience to make a good text face?
And sans serifs...there's been a glut of those lately, and right now geometric sans serifs are all the rage. Gotham is a personal favorite of mine (along with many other designers, methinks, though "clients" may also be more likely), but it's ubiquitous, and ubiquity is a bemoaned fate for a typeface. What genre should I try to dabble in? Should I get to know them and combine them? You have to know the rules to bend them!

@Anonus: So basically, you worry you won't be able to break through in the already-crowded market that is type? That makes sense, I guess. I wish I had some kind of advice to offer, but really I can't think of anything. I do think your worries are valid ones, though.
The one thing I would say, though, is maybe you should at least give it a try before you give up. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
@Lazuli: Maybe. The people who've told me that, admittedly, have been the type that are biased against any sort of creative profession because it's not guaranteed money the way "practical" careers are.

So, like, given my body's preference for sleeping in two short bursts, I'm considering trying an old-timey segmented sleep routine--sleep four hours, wake up for an hour, then sleep four more hours. Urns pretty close to my body's natural sleep routine anyway, so I figure it's worth a try.
Only problem: it will mean having to reserve 8 or 9 hours for sleeping instead of 6 or 7. With me working 6 to 11, I worry this won't leave much time to talk to my friends online...
