Sounding like a mix of Eddier Vedder, a dying basset hound and child being tortured (but with less tonality than that combination would imply), Better Life really challenges the listener to enjoy and appreciate the music he is making.
It's really hard for me to appreciate DeathGrips because for whatever value their production may have, MC Ride--while having a unique delivery if nothing else--is just not a very good rapper.

How is he not a good rapper? Serious question, I'm honestly not sure on what qualities I'd evaluate his skill as a rapper. It's not something I know a lot about.

And John Lydon is a middle-of-the-road singer who doesn't bother. And yet I still enjoy PiL.
Really, I sometimes feel like you bring up the technical element of Death Grips' work because you dislike it for more personal reasons but don't want to say that. I mean, the whole point of Lil B's music is how wonky his flow and demeanour is, and you have no problem with him.
It puzzles me. If you simply said, "I dislike this," that would be fine. But you get all hyper-critical in a very strange way and it bugs me.

well, for what it's worth, I don't think DeathGrips are bad, I just don't like them (I do like "I've Seen Footage" well enough mostly for how weird the disconnect between the tone and interpolation of "Push It" are, but that's about it).
and I mostly don't like them because I find MC Ride a pretty thoroughly uninteresting rapper.
I don't really like to just say "I dislike this" because then people get mad about me hating things for no reason. As has been done to me in the past here and elsewhere.
I also rarely feel the need to clarify that something is just my opinion because I assume that's generally understood, but I'm increasingly having that assumption challenged lately.

Though I personally like this style.
Well it's obviously all subjective, but he really doesn't have any interesting lyrics IMO (it's generally a lot of conspiracy theory/fake schitzo rambling stitched together into pretty simple rhyme patterns), and while his delivery is pretty unique, I don't really like the metal-influenced bent it has.

I see. The metal influence is what I like about his delivery, but that's no surprise coming from me.

See, dude, I'm fine with you saying that you don't dig something. It is only natural. But getting really nitpicky over something that you are normally less preoccupied with just seems somewhat hypocritical.
Now, your response to TNS, that is much more interesting to me, because it actually tells me something new in a candid way. Yes, MC Ride's lyrics can be incoherent and sometimes overly simplistic in terms of rhyme structure, and his delivery is much closer to a punk or metal kind of thing than it is to most rappers.
But honestly, I don't have a problem with that. The lyrics interest me because they feel very much like method acting: Entering a character directly and painting them through their thoughts, undiluted. Same goes for the rapping itself. In turn, I'm into power electronics and extreme metal. Whacked-out vocals appeal to me.
Also, some of those seemingly primitive lyrics have some amazing standout lines. "Hacker", in particular, aside from some of the sillier pop culture references, has some great little nuggets of really biting humour.

Dude I make rap beats.
I think my being a little nitpicky with the genre I'm involved in is understandable, if not expected. I follow several smalltime rappers on twitter and a good portion of our feeds is being disgruntled with the music scene. It's just what happens.

that's mostly why I don't like him.
his closest cousin in terms of delivery--and this isn't meant to dish on either individual--is Waka Flocka Flame, imo. If anything, Flocka's voice is actually harsher, though his raps are even simpler, to the point where most of them are just chants.

I don't really have a problem with you enjoying that, I just dislike it and felt compelled to say such. Was not really trying to diss on your music tastes.
I also just want to point out that while I'm not a purist by any means, I think it's kind of annoying that vaguely defined traits like "relatability" and "character" have recently overtaken actual rapping skill as the general metric that both rap critics and a sizable chunk of the rap community uses to measure an artist's being good or not. Another example is Kool AD's work, which I've covered my problems with elsewhere.
of course I suppose you could argue that DeathGrips aren't really meant to be listened to by rap fans anyway, idk.
And I don't think that you were dissing my music taste. It is perfectly OK to not like something that I like. It doesn't make either of our tastes or opinions any less valid.
^^ The fact that Jamie Stewart legitimately sounds like he's either having a nervous breakdown or about to knife someone is really what pushes the band's first few LPs into classic status for me. The fact that the music actually backs up the sentiments in question is also a plus.
Looks like I was right then. Welp, that's the internet for you. It's that weird paradox where everyone takes everything at face value because when you can apparently just google everything and find out the completely true unbiased answer, you don't need to because the author of whatever your reading surely did that already.
The wording of that sounds stupid for some reason but I can't put my finger on it.

Seriously, the site is unreadable now that ads are actually posted in your feed. I don't really care about a spanish Led Zeppelin fan group, but I can't unfollow them or anything either.

Death Grips' main problem is that they only sampled Salt-n-Pepa for one song instead of for every song.
see therein lies the problem.
He sounds like "a guy who raps", rather than a rapper.
Well, a hybridized demon/cookie monster who raps rather than a rapper, but yeah
It's kind of hard to explain the difference I guess, idk.
And as we all know, sharing is caring.

Is it just me or do they sound just like Xiu Xiu with slightly more tolerable vocals?
edit: nevermind, I don't want to talk about this anymore. Bad for my blood pressure.
this will surely improve my mood
Yep.
