You have to remember that, if this is terrorism, it's the first significant case in the US since 9/11. (Unless you count Fort Hood or failed attempts.)

    ugh forget i said anything

    it's just, it never fails

something bad happens somewhere and everyone else goes "oh no, gotta cover my own ass!" even when there's no reason to believe you're "next"

    i just...i don't understand people
  • I'lll make sure to bake you a cake!

and bake the coal INSIDE THE CAKE!

What a weird thing to say.

Terrorists have this way of inspiring terror.

    Firefighters fight fires.

    Firetrucks are not fire though.
  • well its just a fact of modern life that we live in a permanent state of emergency. i.e. 'emergency measures' and heightened security in response to things like this that never fully gets reverted back to normal. this has been going on for a long time. in britain, for instance, pubs were legally not allowed to open past 11pm, up until 24 hour licenses started being granted very recently (like, less than a decade ago). this 11pm forced closing time was actually an 'emergency temporary measure' that was brought in during world war fucking two. yep

  • Toasters don't toast toast though. which leads me to my next life lesson, Toasters don't toast until you plug them in.

See, that's exactly what depresses me.

Every time there's a terrorist attack we lose a little bit of our freedom, not as a direct result of the terrorists' actions, but because of the people who end up trying to "protect" us.
  • Freedom Fighter. what do they fight again.

extremely emotional about mass tragedy + haven't slept in nearly 24 hours = DON'T POST THINGS BECAUSE WHAT YOU SAY WON'T MAKE SENSE

i did this shit after sandy hook too >_<
  • I'd say it's totally understandable for the White House to be on lockdown. Not being in lockdown would be really dumb actually; it's kind of weird that that would irritate you.
  • What you say makes sense given what you're feeling. ~pat~
  • Someone set off 2 bombs at the Boston Marathon. 2 people died, 22 injured.

    :(

and it might sound like i'm being sarcastic here but i'm not

did i miss the news that there was a credible threat against anywhere that's not boston?

because the white house is not in or near boston

    Better safe than sorry.
  • Well, maybe not but we've been paranoid androids for a while now.

It's a little ridiculous but it's not totally unreasonable.

CA I understand because I am like you in many ways and am not just some regular good citizen, just so ya know.

Some good news (for a very loose definition of "good", naturally): the "explosion" at the JFK Library seems to have been a small, unrelated fire in a mechanical room:

    "Investigators are investigating"

Normally I'd joke about the use of such redundant terminology, but the situation kind of makes me hesitant to do so.

If nothing else, good to know that everyone there's okay.
  • apparently cell phone service has been suspended in Boston?

how is that even possible? On like an actual, physical level?

A cell phone is basically just a radio transmitter.

When you have thousands of people trying to use them at once, it's not hard to imagine that the system would fail.

The sites that relay calls stop servicing the phones.

Oh. I should, ummmmm try to do the special world now.
  • Sarah Connor: Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. The
terminator, would never stop. It would never leave him, and it would
never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him, or say it
was too busy to spend time with him. It would always be there. And it
would die, to protect him. Of all the would-be fathers who came and went
over the years, this thing, this machine, was the only one who measured
up. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice.

I lost track of time because I've been obsessively reading Harry Potter and am for some reason at kind of a loss as for how to write the paper I've been assigned

Also I found myself wanting to play Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, also write "Paper Mario: The Thousand-H Door"

    You know

Part of me likes the idea of starting a blog detailing stories of acts of kindness and compassion

So that when atrocities like this Boston bombing happen we can remind ourselves that there is some good in the world
