You have to remember that, if this is terrorism, it's the first significant case in the US since 9/11. (Unless you count Fort Hood or failed attempts.)

ugh forget i said anything
it's just, it never fails
something bad happens somewhere and everyone else goes "oh no, gotta cover my own ass!" even when there's no reason to believe you're "next"
well its just a fact of modern life that we live in a permanent state of emergency. i.e. 'emergency measures' and heightened security in response to things like this that never fully gets reverted back to normal. this has been going on for a long time. in britain, for instance, pubs were legally not allowed to open past 11pm, up until 24 hour licenses started being granted very recently (like, less than a decade ago). this 11pm forced closing time was actually an 'emergency temporary measure' that was brought in during world war fucking two. yep

See, that's exactly what depresses me.
Every time there's a terrorist attack we lose a little bit of our freedom, not as a direct result of the terrorists' actions, but because of the people who end up trying to "protect" us.

ugh i'm an idiot
extremely emotional about mass tragedy + haven't slept in nearly 24 hours = DON'T POST THINGS BECAUSE WHAT YOU SAY WON'T MAKE SENSE
I'd say it's totally understandable for the White House to be on lockdown. Not being in lockdown would be really dumb actually; it's kind of weird that that would irritate you.

ok, but seriously
and it might sound like i'm being sarcastic here but i'm not
did i miss the news that there was a credible threat against anywhere that's not boston?

Some good news (for a very loose definition of "good", naturally): the "explosion" at the JFK Library seems to have been a small, unrelated fire in a mechanical room:

A cell phone is basically just a radio transmitter.
When you have thousands of people trying to use them at once, it's not hard to imagine that the system would fail.
Sarah Connor: Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. The terminator, would never stop. It would never leave him, and it would never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him, or say it was too busy to spend time with him. It would always be there. And it would die, to protect him. Of all the would-be fathers who came and went over the years, this thing, this machine, was the only one who measured up. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice.

Princess's Log, 6:57 PM: still no indication that my body will allow me to sleep anytime soon. Tiredness beginning to set in. Also boredom.

I feel like this past week or so has been little but me making an ass of myself repeatedly
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I lost track of time because I've been obsessively reading Harry Potter and am for some reason at kind of a loss as for how to write the paper I've been assigned
Also I found myself wanting to play Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, also write "Paper Mario: The Thousand-H Door"

You know
Part of me likes the idea of starting a blog detailing stories of acts of kindness and compassion
So that when atrocities like this Boston bombing happen we can remind ourselves that there is some good in the world

Firefighters fight fires.
Firetrucks are not fire though.

apparently cell phone service has been suspended in Boston?
how is that even possible? On like an actual, physical level?
The sites that relay calls stop servicing the phones.
