I get angry at myself whenever I post here because no one reads my posts.

I wouldn't read my own posts. :D I would gloss over them. Oh, bother. What is that crazy child up to now?

To be fair, it is like 7 AM on a Sunday, I don't think there are many people around to read your posts to begin with

That said, I would like to learn to play piano someday

The only reason I haven't done so already is that I don't have a piano to play and I don't have money to acquire one

Can you believe the piano store only accepts non-imaginary dollars? Jerks. >:(

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
^^^ I do. I just don't always have anything super-clever to say about them. Which is not to say that my responses to anyone else are especially brilliant...

Yeah, some people can play extremely complex pieces from memory, but that's fairly rare; most of the pieces that most piano players can perform by request are really simple in the greater scheme of things and usually open to some degree of improv.

In other words, learning to play from sheet music or at least having a fakebook and a good knowledge of chords will help you immensely.

I should learn to read a fake book. :D That way I could play *anything.*
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I play keyboards and things for a band and I still technically suck at piano. I can read sheet music, but slowly, and my left-right hand coordination blows goats. I guess the best way to improve this is to just practice, but... eh. I'm better at singing and composition anyway.

I keep thinking about my dream of being a stand-up comedian

    It feels foolish, somehow

Like it's something I've always wanted to try and I want to make people laugh but I literally doubt I am capable of ever becoming comfortable speaking to a crowd
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Maybe I will teach myself sheet music. I dream of being able to play a piano nicely.

CA you could use tumblr for silly jokes like lots of people do. :)

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
You couldn't play everything if you could read fakebooks—there are some very difficult melodic pieces in the classical repertoire, and let's not even talk about serialism—but you could at the least manage the majority of jazz standards and 99% of all pop songs.

I actually play piano a lot. >_< I am just... not especially good at it.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
^^ Yeah! :D Pop songs are really easy. Jazz... I really know nothing about, even though it interests me a little.

Same! Join the club. We have little sandwiches.

Jazz is mostly a matter of being able to understand the chord changes and play over them without making a fool of yourself. Or at least while making a fool of yourself in the most interesting way possible.

Which is what I basically try to do all the time.

That's not good enough though. You can't hear people's laughter through Tumblr. You can't see people smile through Tumblr...

So... jazz is basically skilled improv. Ok. :)

CA maybe in the future tumblr will be a holographic virtual world and you *will* see people laugh at your humor. :)

Wait a holographic virtual world is in practice the same thing as being on a stage in a non-holographic real world. Xp whoops

I am able to play a lot of of this one and sound okay. :)

Are occult clubs real things or do they only exist in anime?

I used to want to start a school occult club, just because it sounds edgy and fun. :)

    That depends.

    Not grammar translations good.

They exist but what they actually do varies from club to club.

I mostly want to learn pop piano so I can integrate key-based instruments into my beats.

On the other hand, I do not want to be one of those dudes that brags about all the sick chords he learns and bitches about sampling all day.

  • Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
    I Read That As:

  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
There are twelve notes and every chord (I think?) has a "root" note, so the basics of chord theory are not terribly complicated. Chords are, most commonly, major or minor (determined by a half-step variation in the 3rd note from the root). If you learn all of those, the rest of it 'clicks' really easily I think. Here is a nice chart of how chords work.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Also: generally, chord patterns (especially pop ones) stay on the same scale, which makes it even easier. You can quickly learn the most common chord patterns. Scale deviations or outright changes are common during more complex music pieces, but with some experimentation you can start to 'get' how chords sound even when they deviate from the scale you started with.

I doubt that you will, given how much you respect sample-based music to begin with. But really, it's best to have it both ways: To create and to sample creatively.

I am probably not doing a good job of explaining this. >_>

You actually are. At least, you're a lot less jargon-y than I might be in the same situation...

One thing that you should have clarified is that by "third," you mean the third note in the key, which is (in twelve-tone music theory) three or four half-steps/semitones above the root note, and the second in the triad. The third note in the triad is the fifth in the scale, which is usually seven semitones up (unless diminished [six] or augmented [eight]). Major chords (say, E) go root/four up/seven up (E-G#-B); minor chords go root/three up/seven up (E-G-B); and diminished and augmented chords (Eº, E+) are just three on three and four on four respectively (E-G-B flat, E-G#-C).

...and that turned into a theory lesson fast, didn't it?
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
That is a more thorough explanation. :)

perhaps not, but it's certainly annoying that they're generally more respected than I am.

Sampling is not very "in" right now, unless it's for novelty's sake. Dude I know has a recording contact with OG Che$$. Said dollar-signed rapper is not very well known, but he's an affiliate of Travi$ Scott, who is.

    it's frustrating

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Sampling is one of the cornerstones of the hip-hop tradition. Bitching about it past crass misuse or blatant uninventiveness feels a bit lunkheaded.
  • You could argue lunkheadedness is trendy, I guess.

anyway, 10 Haters is a good album.
