  • it's still weird as shit seeing Childish Gambino in .gifs.
  • In that case, watching Community would be akin to seeing an alien screwball comedy. :P

    Dear America,

Go fuck yourself. Once I get out of this hellhole I am never looking back.

    Hatefully yours,
    Central Avenue.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
But there are nice people in America, as weird a place as it is. And there are mean people in any other country too.

    Well, yeah.

It's just that all the little crap adds up after a while and it's starting to drive me mad.
  • Honestly given what I've seen and heard from other countries I'm pretty sure most of them are no better. Maybe Canada, but the problem is that as soon as you move somewhere else everyone knows you as "that American person", and...yeah.

Of late, even America's neighbors have been more progressive, and there is also Europe too.

On a different note, let us name the skeleton in Homestuck!

    Well the thing is

There are countries where they know better than to make guns legally available to the general public

There are countries where the biggest broadcasters are publicly funded and thus strive to produce quality content rather than content that serves corporate interests

There are countries where things like "trash pickup is free because it's funded by taxes" are the rule instead of the exception

There are countries where the government doesn't use my tax dollars to execute its own citizens

There are countries where healthcare is provided to all people instead of letting those who can't afford it suffer

There are countries where college education is publicly funded instead of forcing young people to take on debt to afford it

Things like that. Things that America will eventually get around to fixing, but not any time within my lifetime. And I don't feel like playing this game any longer.
  • There sure are.

I'm just saying that if you ever live in any of them you should basically expect to be treated like an outcast. I've read that most countries don't really take kindly to liberal Americans moving on in because their own country sucks. Even the British hate us.

Alice we should go to the UK. :)

^^^^ That's still preferable to living here, though.
  • If you say so.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely wish America were a more liberal country and in a more general sense just a better one, but I would rather stay here and help fix the problem then just leave and have it taken for granted elsewhere that I'm a dick because I was born in a country known mostly for producing dicks.

  • in other news, I have accidentally set my background as a heavily pixellated picture of cheesesticks.

See, I've thought about the "staying here and trying to fix it" thing, but then I think, why bother? I'm not going to be able to change anything. America adopting a single-payer healthcare system within my lifetime? I won't count on it, but it's within the realm of possibility. The Second Amendment being repealed within my lifetime? Ain't gonna happen, so why waste my time here trying to push for such things? Every minute I willingly spend living in the US is implicit approval of the nonsense that goes on here.

And frankly, if moving to Canada or the UK will mean I can get the government to pay for all the hormones and surgery I'm going to need instead of having to save up every penny I earn and pay it out of pocket, why the hell shouldn't I take advantage of that?

Does Canada or the UK offer those things for free?

Not entirely, but from discussions I've had with others I'm under the impression that their coverage is much better than what I could get in the US.
  • I feel an obligation to the land I was born on.

If you do not, that is completely fine and within your rights as a person.

Personally, I still try to feel some small pride as an American, but it's hard when the principles this country was built on--and make no mistake, they were good principles--have been retroactively erased and turned into conservative talking points.

Of course, moving isn't ever going to be an option for me even if I wanted it to be. So it's a moot point.

    hmm ok :)

Kurt Vonnegut called countries meaningless associations of people. He said that Republicans and Democrats are imaginary, and that the two *real* parties are the Winners and the Losers. I agree with him.
  • Kurt Vonnegut was a good writer, but he believed a number of strange things.

Vonnegut was amazing and only tried to tear through the lies and see the truth. :)

    Now, that having been said

I would be willing to stay in the US for the sake of my Anonus

    He's worth it, to me

He's not entirely sold on the idea yet.

To which I say, fair enough, I'll let him have some time to think it over, and in the meantime we can find somewhere relatively nice in the US to live.

No thanks, it's a little too late for that. I'm in kind of a crunchy mood and I don't really need another thing distracting me from trying to get some sleep.

    Definitely tomorrow though.

I feel like I should point out that even here, a lot of people pay for SRS, because the NHS surgeons for it aren't particularly great at their job. They're fully capable, of course, just, not great.

Burn the Mail to the ground.

ah the old 'person who did [thing] committed crime, therefore [thing] is to blame, not the person!!' tactic

replace 'benefits' with 'video games', 'violent tv', 'communist tendencies', anything you like, works a charm

also isnt it rather convenient how this trial concluded literally 2 days after all the massive benefit cuts came into effect???? very convenient

  • people think American tabloids are mean.
