I find it somewhat fitting that my terrible pun ended up at the bottom of the page, where Vanilla won't show it to most people anyway.
@Naney: I suppose my phrasing implied that I think of Holmes and Watson as a romantic couple, which was a slip-up on my part.
It's more like this: I figure it's an inevitability that any work based on Sherlock Holmes is going to result in a significant portion of its fanbase shipping Holmes/Watson. The impression I got, at least initially, was that making Watson female was a way of allowing the writers to include sexual tension between the two without getting into "gay" territory, which is where heteronormativity would come in. Like I said, though, that was an initial impression, and I haven't actually seen the show.
Does that make sense? I think Bobby could explain it better, if he were around.

Like "Hey, we wanna write sexual tension between Holmes and Watson, but OH GOD NOT THE GAY. Let's make Watson a chick!"

Gay territory is, as i said, a rather big can of worms and if they didn't give enough time to portraying all the things that go with having an openly gay relationship / being gay in the proper manner (which is a lot of time, and probably much more than the amount of time they could spare for such things), and glossing over these details would be much worse than avoiding them altogether.

BTW, Naney and I are cool now. We talked out the Elementary thing in private.
speaking of writing I really need to think of a name for these tumblr off-the-top-of-my-head stories I come up with every now and again. They're well and truly a series by now.

I'm thinking of making a thread for these. I generally start off with some surreal but vividly described sentence and then just make a little short story from there. Sometimes they're good and sometimes they're not.
