Not yet. I'm right where Calliope's name is first revealed.

I can't imagine leaving a place where public transit will take you anywhere important in about an hour and a half for a place where you basically have to live in a compound until a male relative takes mercy on you or a driver is arranged to take you somewhere is a fun transition.
Dubai was apparently pretty awesome, though I'd expect nothing less.

I was thinking exactly along those lines. It must be jarring.
That said, it's good to know that they are otherwise all right.
She gets to have my childhood, but I'll filter out all the garbage like G.I. Joe and most of Transformers generation 1.
I hope to do the same to my offspring, minus the lousy bits (of my own childhood, that is). I also intend to introduce them to the Myst series, Arthur Machen, Edward Gorey and experimental dance music as early as possible. There will also be much LEGO. So much LEGO.
Before their prime minister was assassinated by the CIA, Iran was one of the most progressive countries in Asia, and easily one of the best educated; even after the Shahs were put into place, it was still a remarkably forward-thinking country.
Have you ever read Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis? It puts a lot of things into perspective.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is a pretty silly, fun show from what I've seen
I can't stand Transformers G1. It's just boring to me and they play that transition animation every 5 seconds and it grates on my nerves. I don't find the show very visually appealing either...
If I ever had kids I'd probably show them shows I vaguely remember from my earlier childhood but only gained appreciation for later in life, such as The Ren & Stimpy Show, Rocko's Modern Life, and my favored parts of the Warner/Amblin Animated Universe (e.g. Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Freakazoid!)
Iran is a pretty fascinating place. I feel really sorry for the people there now, though, given their current governmental system. But I feel that way about a lot of places.
Downloaded the four LPs by The Fiery Furnaces. I've been curious about their work for a while, if only because they were a huge indie-hipster phenomenon for a couple of years before vanishing off the face of the earth. What little I've heard I've liked, but I really want to know what so obsessed certain reviewers.
On a tangentially related note, I got my best friend into Death Grips by accident. Maybe two of my friends. It's weird.

Aww, I just missed him. :<
Anyway, Clocky's right. If that's your idea of "secret", AU, remind me never to tell you my credit card numbers. :P

Lain is getting spoiled by her grandparents.
Friday has gone to the dentist a few too many times and is sick of it and not being able to leave the compound without a male driver.
Though, sounds like she's eating well at least. She misses sea food though, apparently fish pretty much blows even at the pricey restaurants in Saudi.
