Up with Capitalism. It's the rich man's dictatorship. May Pepsi, NBC and Exxon rule with an iron fist, and oppress those with less money than them. They make the decisions, and the decisions they can't make, they pay for to make. MONEY IS RIGHTEOUS POWER
Did anyone really care about Youtube when it was just home videos though?
I'd argue the corporatization is what actually made it relevant. Some might argue though.
Unfortunately when the hobbyist work crosses streams with the corporate stuff is when problems arise. I've had several of my own songs taken down from Youtube.
If you disguise your youtube account as a corporate face they leave you alone. My friend did that when he was uploading copyrighted videos to youtube and hasn't had them removed yet.
YouTube and the culture/industry there is really starting to creep me out though.
Well, ABC Inc, like most content behemoths, is more or less a middleman.
A middleman with desires to rise above and beyond the norm (despite being a public company and, at least via ABC itself, catering to an audience that probably isn't very receptive to content that's too much outside of the norm) but a middleman nonetheless.

Why were your songs taken down, Mojave? Sampling?
Yep.
I've gotten C&Ds from about a half dozen record labels actually. My favorite was from Roc-A-Fella.
Had no choice but to comply and most of those songs sucked anyway, but still.
Then how do they get away with sampling in commercial music? Licensing?
Yes.
Generally a fraction of the sampling songs profit goes to the rights owners of the sampled song. That's with big companies. Indie musicians like myself are expected to pay a flat fee (which is always ridiculous. I was told to either remove my remix of Jay-Z's "The Takeover" or pay up $135,000 for the use of his vocals).
I actually got two C&Ds from that remix. I also sampled Fast DJ Eddie's "Acid Thunder" and got a C&D from whatever dance music conglomerate owns his work now, I forget the name.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
$135,000, that's more than you or I make in a year, the fuck
I admit this has to do with ABC Inc more than anything, but the insane consolidation of the modern music industry bothers the everloving shit out of me
$135,000, that's more than you or I make in a year, the fuck
that's total. It was broken up into about two dozen sub-fees. Including $400 to Jay-Z himself. Which just shows you how much musicians actually make out of their songs.
I don't know how common that is, since none of the other C&Ds I've gotten have been that detailed.
Incidentally bullshit like this is the reason there are only a very small few labels I'd ever even considering signing to.

Sometimes I want to start some kind of media business but I worry that I'm too lazy to be a real businessperson (much less ever produce anything worthwhile) and that I'd be ripping off my employees. :/
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Ugh, I miss the days when being awake was a thing I could do.

I admit, the only thing that a creator could really get from a middleman is exposure
I'm surprised that something like that hasn't sprung up for webcomics, though the more famous ones (e.g. Penny Arcade, Homestuck) seem to be able to get to the big leagues on their own (not to mention their creators own them outright) they may be exceptions to the norm

i have wondered before how Homestuck and Problem Sleuth get away with the amount of appropriated/remixed content used. It ought to qualify for fair use, but that hasn't stopped lawsuits in the past. i can only assume MSPA is just more obscure/less relevant than i think of it as being.
Penny Arcade i don't follow so closely, but i know they were forced to remove at least one strip (parodying Strawberry Shortcake).

I haven't been asleep continuously, if that's what you mean, but I can't stay awake for more than 40 minutes or so, it seems
This happens from time to time...yesterday was the same way
I'm not tired at all but my body wants to fall asleep, if that makes sense
Better. I was really, really hungry, so I ate a few sandwiches and now my stomach just hurts, rather than feels like it's going to throw up food into my mouth.

I haven't been diagnosed with narcolepsy but it runs in my family
@ CA: It does make sense; actually, that sounds like a surprisingly familiar feeling. But if you can't stay awake for more than 40 minutes that's really quite bad and you should definitely see someone about it.

It wasn't always like this. A lot of old school hip-hop records could never be made nowadays.

Does it feel like a panic attack?
Don't think about the project now, not if it's getting you like this. It's not worth it. Think of better things.
Why does my body hate me >_<
that's sort of an issue if you've literally been asleep all day
maybe you should see someone about it?
But if it's affecting your breathing your own wellbeing is more important.
I was not happy tonight.
*hugs*
