This was originally supposed to be a movie about people's ignorance of their own religion. When Steve Drain came across Fred Phelps he decided that Phelps had the most airtight theology of anyone he'd interviewed, and not only changed the course of the movie to focus entirely on Phelps, but he and his wife also joined Phelps's church/cult and made their daughters join as well.
    this is making me uncomfortable
    mahahahhahaahhaahhhaaaa
  • Well honestly, Phelps' philosophy is pretty internally consistent (it's hard to screw up "everyone is so fucked forever"), which is more than can be said for some far better theologies.
  • but like

how can anyone come to agree with that kind of thing when they had hated it originally
  • caerdydd is fun to say

The detail on the technology in Serial Experiments Lain impressed me.

    you've seen SEL? :D

    Yes. Was a good show.

i should thank you, actually, because you had a Lain avatar back on TVT, which was what sparked my initial curiosity.

SEL is legitimately my favorite show ever in any medium or genre, so no problem.

But what about Goro Goro Iki?

Fullmetal Alchemist also had pretty detailed technology.

Something i found interesting: there is a very prominent telephone kiosk in both series in which a particularly infamous scene takes place.  In the first FMA, it's an anchronistically modern-looking glass-fronted kiosk.  In Brotherhood, it's clearly based on a K6 (with way too many windows and the dome's the wrong shape, but it's still recognizably a K6 and not an earlier model), which makes more sense for the setting.

How come most people here like the animus and the mangas?

    Never heard of it.

Eh, I don't think the two are really comparable.
  • How come most people here like the animus and the mangas?

Because it's hard to genuinely dislike an entire medium unless you go out of your way to do so.

there are lots of them and they are quite diverse, so it's almost inevitable that with a bit of searching that someone will find some they like.

Hell, i'm not all that much of a fan and I still like 3 or 4.

Okay, I guess I'll rephrase the question because I didn't mean that.

How come most people on this forum are fans of the animus and the mangas?

Because its like a niche thing (In European mainly)

The level of detail is not, no, but in Brotherhood especially, some care is taken to depict early 20th century technology realistically, which impressed me.

i remember Pokémon and Digimon being pretty popular when i was a kid.

i wouldn't really class myself as a fan of anime.  There are a few series i'm really into, but most of the cartoons i've watched are American.

    i've barely read any manga.

There are a couple popular children's anime over here.

idk it's really not that niche a thing. Most of my friends like at least Bleach or something.

My friends are fans of the animu and the mangas

They drag me to watch things and though I wouldn't call myself a "fan" there are a number of anime that are really good.

    Most notably for me, Steins;Gate.

Most of the anime i've watched has been stuff my brother showed me.

Most of my favorite cartoons are American

Sometimes I worry that this is bad (more recent kids' shows tend to be stupid, and adult animation often compromises the "animation" part)

Well ya should because its both very adulty and very animated.
  • I love how Pinkfinn kinda answers Two Face's plea for more hand drawn shows since Adventure Time is hand-animated
