You mean utricating hairs, and yes, they do -- but you really have to rile them up first. The tarantulas in these region of the world (North and North-Central America) are almost all incredibly docile and happy-go-lucky.

I saw some Doug last night
It's clearly aimed at someone around Doug's age (11-12) but the show is so heavy-handedly moralizing that I'm not sure it would appeal to them.
At the very least with PB&J Otter (which came later, but still) the target audience was young enough that Jinkins could cast off the shackles of characterization/personality to amp up the morals/lessons even more.

Tarantulas are actually really smart as far as spiders go; apparently, they're also really loyal pets. Despite generally being freaked out by spiders, I really like them.
