You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
What I'm getting at is that they're just sitcoms. They're not designed to be great, just for a few cheap chuckles. There's really no reason at all to think about them too hard. It's like having Roger Ebert review a home movie.
Has it occurred to you that perhaps what a society chooses to laugh at for entertainment may be indicative of and/or reinforce that society's values and prejudices?
I feel so horrible for laughing at that example. While one part of me understands your point of view, the other half wishes that show was real. It would be like the Tyler Perry Show, except hilarious.
Honestly, I sometimes want a show where everyone is a stereotype, except it'd be taken off the air so quickly.
That, and it'd probably only be funny for like a week tops.
I'm pretty sure you want Glee. I haven't heard much about it, but I do know that they made a leprechaun joke about an Irish student.
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air had a lazy but street smart black lead with a pompous rich uncle who has strayed from his roots and a smart but lacking in common sense cousin.
This is a show with a cast full of stereotypes and as a result is terrible.
Alright, I misspoke.
Such shows should avoid negative stereotypes and focus on more positive aspects.
Fresh Prince has a black family that's generally well-off, well-educated and respectable. The Prince himself, while a troublemaker, is shown to recognize his mistakes. It portrays the black family in a positive way, despite the use of stereotypes. BBT, in contrast, doesn't celebrate any of the positive facets of nerddom. It just portrays stereotypically nerdy activities and puts a laugh track behind them. If anything, it's encouraging the mockery of nerddom rather than helping it.
I've never heard of anyone who has been bullied because of BBT.

As far as I know, nobody's gone and bullied Arabs because of their depiction in Zero Dark Thirty. And yet, this happenned.
I'm not saying that BBT causes people to go and find nerds to mock. I'm saying that the depiction of nerds in BBT, along with other assorted depictions of nerds in media, teaches America that nerds and geeks are to be laughed at. Our president was shot while wielding Link's Shield, and yet we're still taught that it's laughable when a girl walks into an arcade or a guy digs up an N64 from their closet.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat

Nitwits on Twitter were saying racist things about Asian people after the Red Dawn remake came out too
I hate how social media has created this desire in people to broadcast their every thought 24/7
Also these things about BBT sound weird to me
Like some kind of parody
And I'll have you know that my N64 is still prominent among my consoles :P
Well, now I can use my night off for things that aren't internet arguments
But this turns out to be a tragic mistake.
You see, what people don't realize is that Internet arguments actually serve a vital purpose. The uniquely potent nerdrage and butthurt they generate drives the vibrations of tiny subatomic particles called ragetrons, the fundamental basis of matter. When the Internet arguments stop, the universe begins to unweave itself at its very seams.

To my knowledge most people lurk for at least fifteen minutes before actually going to bed.

"Zero Dark Thirty" is also the title of an Aesop Rock song and I was very confused for a moment
what's this movie.
There is a huge difference between the portrayal of Arabs in Zero Dark thirty and the portrayal of nerds in BBT.

In any case the N64 is awesome, so there.
