To be fair, even though they have the same creator Family Guy and American Dad have wildly different styles of presentation besides the art style. The difference primarily being that Family Guy has cutaways.
So mostly it's an apples or oranges situation. Same thing with Matt Groening's shows.

Even when the articles are good I find myself confused as to why they're on Cracked and not a more serious website.

I just found the whole thing to be tangential. Sure, the violence in our culture is a valid point of discussion, but we should probably have a real discussion about gun control before or while addressing videogames.
I actually agreed with most of the article I just don't understand why it was on Cracked
and you have things like "4 Uncomfortable Truths That Will Make You a Better Person" which is just a laundry list of things self-proclaimed "realists" on a given forum tell you.
The one where he calls out so-called writers, though, was pretty good. The rest of the article was meh.

no it wasn't, because how many times have you seen that exact point made before by people who made it better?
Really? Because that very topic used to come up all the time on TVTropes and generally the people there made it better, and it tended to be more relevant since they were generally talking to a specific person.
