    Jungle Run

From what little I've watched of it it looks like British Legends of the Hidden Temple

You know I wish the American kids' networks had more game shows again

I love me some game shows

*drools at the thought of Sony Pictures Television's Beautiful Game Show Stash and the thought of acquiring it*

Zero Punctuation used to amuse me somewhat but it's a long time since i watched any.

i think i'm remembering now why i mostly watched American imports.  That and older shows on VHS.

    omg

    i forgot this even existed

Now I want to conceive of some non-Hasbro-based game shows for The Hub

I'd thought about bringing back Win, Lose or Draw (which I inherited from Disney) or The Hollywood Squares (which is owned by MGM) but those aren't original ideas of mine
  • What bothers me is that if you hate several genres and games that are almost universally liked, then you're probably not a very good critic. I have no doubt in my mind he's funny, but I can't take him seriously as a critic.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
No, he probably doesn't count as a serious critic.  He's also deliberately really negative.  i remember people complained that it wasn't funny when he said nice things about Psychonauts, so since then he's been more caustic.

Anonus, your game shows should involve gunging.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Gunging is Nickelodeon's shtick but they never really use it outside of the Kids' Choice Awards anymore.

Would you like The Hub to cover people in purple slime anyway
  • And also because Nintendo's hatedom really irritates me.
  • No, just because you don't understand the genre doesn't mean all the games are the same.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
they should cover people in gak
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i am of course talking about Nintendo, not the Hub.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    Gak is also Nickelodeon's

Maybe The Hub should build Rube Goldberg devices

...And even when your hope is gone
move along, move along, just to make it through
    (2015 self)
From what I remember  (about a year and a half ago)...

There's not much to like or dislike.  It's basically a bunch of snide comments, rudeness, sarcasm, swearing, and hyperbole, rather than any sort of actual thought about the inner workings and structure of games, entertainment, etc.

The same applies to the Angry Video Game Nerd, except with more swearing and hyperbole and less sarcasm and snide comments.  Neither one really has any meaning or context other than farce and humorous reactions.

Look, if you just swear at a video game instead of explaining what mechanic it is that needs to be removed or improved, you don't help anyone.  It is much more useful to make a reasoned, thought-out overview of the underlying flaws of a game than to simply say how terribly bad it is.

The same applies to a lot of reviewers and basically all I remember of TGWTG from the days when I used to watch TGWTG videos.
  • if you hate several genres and games that are almost universally liked, then you're probably not a very good critic
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Doesn't the AVGN usually point out what's wrong with a game other than IT FUCKING SUCKS?
  • I'd say the AVGN is more reasonable because he reviews unarguably bad games, and TGWTG is more reasonable since none of the reviewers act like their opinion is fact. They regularly make a point of saying lthat they don't think liking the stuff they review makes me stupid. Now, I don't know about Yahtzee, but he seems somewhat Armond White-esque.

This show was fucking awesome, i am completely serious about this.

What I mean is that if you have a bias against a genre, you shouldn't review games in that genre.

I don't think I read enough comic books

I've got to buy more shit

    Starz here I come

I don't know.  Last time I watched an AVGN video was, I think, the middle of 2011.  Other than hyperbole and obscenity, I remember the AVGN sometimes saying that a game has bad graphics or is too hard, but I don't remember any serious thought about the games.

Then again, I'm probably not the most reliable authority on this.

RIP Toon Disney 1998-2009 (but it probably truly died before 2009!)

    It's okay

In my mind Toon Disney came back from the dead and possessed The Hub

A bunch of TD's old shows are there now

It's ok to hate a genre and review games in it, otherwise you are consigning a genre to being all bad and the same thing all the time. If a person hates a genre there is probably a reason why. Also, good reviews that gush over a game's greatness are rare, if they exist. A good review describes what a game is all about, its fun aspects, its not-so-fun aspects, and some of its highlights.

But the problem is that if you review a genre you hate, you alienate part of your audience who do like that genre and provide no real information to the other part who don't.

If your review is fair then you are giving the same information regardless of your own bias.

What I was saying is that it's hard to give a fair review with bias.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but the bottom two reviews of Skyward Sword on Metacritic have "it's too similar" and "it's too different" as their main criticisms.
