You know a few years ago I had a dream about a grocery store.
It was this wonderful old store--the inside looked like it hadn't been touched in decades. I wasn't there to shop, just to meet with some friends, so I spent most of my time standing in the front of the store, near the checkouts.
I've never actually been in a store that looks like that, as far as I can remember. And yet my mind goes back to it every once in a while.

The weirdest part is that the grocery store wasn't even the focal point of the dream.
The dream was mainly about some sort of vague secret agency that had a hidden office in the space above the grocery store. I was meeting someone there, and decided to stop in the grocery store while I waited for them to let me in...or something like that.

This doesn't look like this anymore, the "Meijer" sign has been moved to the center of the building and all the signage has been removed from around the entrance.
Also those little black squares near the top have all been removed--I have no idea what purpose they ever served.

I don't know, I've only seen this one and one in Kentucky (near Cincinnati) that have/had that design.
The other entrance is styled like "city" buildings (being the general merchandise side of the store), but I don't have a picture of that and neither does the Franklin County Auditor.

You know what's weird? There's been a Meijer 5 minutes from my house for almost 10 years, and I've been going there several times a week pretty much since it opened...and yet, my mental image of a "generic" Meijer store is patterned on the much older store that used to be on Brice Road.
(Even though all the Meijers like that--at least the ones I know of--have long since been renovated or closed)

I don't know if "generic" was quite the right word, but...when I try to picture "a Meijer" (as opposed to a specific Meijer), I picture the old store from Brice Road.
