HISTORY LESSON TIME!
Back in the day, rename proposals and the like were handled through YKTTW. But the place started getting choked full of rename discussions, so it was decided to move them to the forums, so the "Rename A Trope" forum was made. The same with merge proposals: started in YKTTW (I think), then moved to their own subforum: "Merge A Trope".
At some point it became obvious that having two separate subforums for that wasn't really necessary, so they were merged into a single subform, then called "Fix A Trope". It went through a number of names--"Trope Lab", "Trope-tan's Title Repair and Trope Mending Shop, Ltd.", "Fast Eddie's Trope Torture and Dismemberment Chamber" (or something like that)--before it finally became "Trope Repair Shop".

...I keep feeling dense for not visiting the forums until the search feature included them. I don't know why I didn't notice the button that went to them before then!

I don't remember how I found the forums. I know I started in Haven's "Tropes present in your life" thread, but I can't remember if I found it on my own or I was linked there from the Troper Tales main page (though I know it was linked there for a while).

It's OK I kind of want to die after reading the Permenent Redlink Club. I think it's a completely stupid an d depressing concept and in fact quite miss most of the tropes that are on there.

There's a MediaWiki Mirror for TV Tropes. It used to put me offi but now that TV Tropes has made so many bad choices and changes I'm starting to wonder.
I don't like the PRLC all that much, either (especially considering how many things are on it not because someone kept re-creating them when told not to -- which is one of a very few reasons this sort of thing would ever happen on Wikipedia -- but because the subjects were considered "unacceptable"), but at this point, trying to make it go away is kind of pointless.
And I haven't seen the mirror wiki in quite a while, but when I did, it was still new and had the same problem as BTL does -- they were more interested in getting back at certain people than actually making a better site.
Then good luck, because you'll be waiting until the day TVTropes' servers shut down for the last time.
Speaking of which. I cannot name a single major site that has ever permanently gone under to never be used again. I know there must be some, can I get some help here?

The only Web-era one I can think of off-hand is GeoCities, and even then it's got at least one fairly comprehensive mirror around. There's also the old walled-garden services like CIS, Prodigy, GEnie, etc.
