  • After watching something like "Education for Death", I'm not convinced that Disney was an anti-semite.

I think the general consensus is that he was not any more anti-semitic than was the norm for his time.

Which is obviously still deplorable by modern standards but, yes, things.

And racism will always be with us until we keep fucking until we're the same color.

and somewhere right now, someone just used the bestworst pickup line ever.

Wikipedia suggests he liked To Kill a Mockingbird, which I guess doesn't prove anything but speaks against him being a racist.

Modern racism is actually a fairly recent development, afaik.  But there has always been a tribal us-vs-them mentality in every era.

I think there's a sort of "No true Scotsman" thing going on with prejudice, sort of.

Like how "Gays are evil" changed to "I'm fine with gays if they don't flirt with me" when they became more socially acceptable and homophobia became less so.

Edit: I have no idea where that thought came from, but it's not stupid enough for me to justify deleting this post.
  • The latter is also still homophobia though. It's not really the same kind of malicious kill'em'all homophobia, but it's still pretty homophobic.

It hurts my heart and brain to hear A$AP Rocky praised as revolutionary because he said he was "basically sort of kinda okay with gay people because they design clothes and stuff but keep them like five feet from me at least at all times eeeeeeeee I don't want their cooties on meeee :("

meanwhile, the couple good gay rappers out there (Le1f and Nigel Powers come to mind) make roughly the same amount of money in a week I do.

I don't know how I went to rap music there. I'm tired, sorry.

  • Oh, by no means am I saying it's not, but it's a lot easier to get people to stop being prejudiced than you might think.

(This is not actually possible because recessive genes)

But racism hasn't always existed the way it does now, and there's no reason to suppose we're stuck with it.

  • And racism will always be with us until we keep fucking until we're the same color.

Which will never happen because of residential segregation and unconscious social stigma against intermarriage (particularly minority!male and white female) and a lot of other factors.

So, yeah. Racism is just going to be one of these things that will never go away and we'll just have to deal with it.

And then it turned out that I was disagreeing with everyone above me.

That's an incredibly pessimistic view to take.

Even unconscious stigma are lost over time.

Not that it doesn't take awhile--it totally does--but I don't see why it's impossible, and declaring it such just seems defeatist.

That's very true, but all the same I don't think it would be unreasonable to say that the racism entrenched in our society isn't likely to go away entirely during our lifetimes.

    That's not unreasonable, no.

Yep. All in all there's a huge difference between the racism of Disney's timeframe (1920s -> 1950s) than what there is today.  We've made incredible strides since then and with hindsight it's really easy to look back and condemn everything that occurred as virulent racism. What I'm getting at here is many of these things were such a normal part of everyday life and culture that nobody gave two thoughts about them, and that could be how people perceive Disney as such (especially for some of the cartoons, like what was permanently edited out of Fantasia.)

  • I was going to write up a response to what Mojave said, but it got too depressing.

Let's just say that humans can make progress on the issue that is racism, and I believe in that and support it. I'm just not sure that racism'll completely leave humanity. Maybe it'll just remain as an echo of earlier wrong. Hopefully.

Cream's departure is unexpected but unsurprising. Enjoy your travels.

I agree with you apart from this part. From what i've read i'm fairly sure people did give two thoughts about them, but usually only people who were themselves being stereotyped (though not always even them).

Trying to force myself to be productive and regretting staying up this late.

Oh hey, James and MIke finally got their hands on the one working Jaguar CD in existence:

Also forcing myself to be productive is probably something I should try. >_>

I like the new version of SouthernMedia's News Music Search Archive

Various cuts of News Series 2000 Plus/Stimulus keep getting stuck in my head

Early '90s Gari goodness in that sample they have

  • Lets get all philological guys! then we can call them simple minded!

But if they are considered a trans-gender, it doesn't matter the physical attraction, THEY'RE STILL TRANSGENDER

I'm going to talk utilizing a bunch of more technical and complex words in order to sound much more advanced in comparison to what these other, non-philosophical and unintelligent baboons are attempting to argue

So by this rule, I can fuck girly looking guys all my life and still proudly claim to be straight?

    I hate everyone.

Explain to them that there's a difference between masculinity/femininity and gender.
  • I'm not even going to try.

I linked to the wikipedia article on the Kinsey scale, because they're arguing over whether a guy attracted to a pre-op transsexual is gay or straight.

    I've done my part.

Now I sit back and torture myself.

You know what Atari game would actually work well on a DS, though? Missile Command. You could tap the screen where you want to shoot instead of having to fiddle with a joystick!

We should get Activision to release a gritty reboot of Pitfall! where Pitfall Harry has a gun and shoots wild animals in the head

You know, this is what comes to mind when I think of video game music:

The SNES had better sound, sure, but I think the Genesis's music sounds more video gamey
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i'm not sure what exactly constitutes video gamey music, but this is the kind of sound i primarily associate with video games:

And yes, i only found out about this tune because of I Wanna Be the Guy.  But it encapsulates the kind of sound 'video game music' brings to mind.
