I just found out today that there's SCART cables available for the Genesis. What this means is you can get one of those Genesis SCART cables, and a SCART -> component adapter, and have RGB output without modding your system.

Our Genesis will probably stay with my brother when I move out, because he's more of a gamer than I am and he likes "retro" stuff.

I'm taking the PS2, though. Though that raises the question of how to divide the PS1 games, since AFIAK my brother still has a working PS1.

Oh yeah, I purchased 3 Megadrive (Genesis) games over in Japan. Marvel Land, DJ Boy, and Thunder Force III. I'd like to do write-ups for Marvel Land and DJ Boy for HG101, DJ Boy itself having a curious history with importers and its American version -- the Japanese version of the game contained pretty outrageous stereotypes involving black and gay minorities

Back in the states I was wondering if I'd have to take a file to my Genesis to make the Megadrive games fit, because most Megadrive adapters for the Genesis are super fucking expensive on the collector's market nowadays -- then I remember that the Genesis version of the Game Genie was an outstanding adapter by itself, woop

Yes and no. From what I understand, the system does have a switch (and IIRC, it's a real switch inside the Genesis that you can flip on and off, but I'm not sure) for US/Japan. Most games on both sides of the Pacific never even bothered to check this, so importing carts on either side was no big deal.

Correction: a lot (but not all) games use this region lock, but using a Game Genie it's a trivial matter to simply bypass this for like 99% of them.
