the fundamental problem with reddit is the entire karma/points/whatever-the-fuck that thing is based on
it allows the hivemind to downvote anything that offends their delicate sensibilities
what hivemind.
I mean, I know who you're talking about, your stereotypical redditor is libertarian, atheist, stoned out of his mind, and hates women. But you have to realize that those are four different groups that don't always overlap.
Also unsurprisingly the smaller or more nonsensical subreddits tend to be the better ones.

A hivemind can be defined as a lack of diversity when it comes to thought
and those four you just listed aren't enough to disqualify that entire site from being one

But there are several subreddits where things like that don't even come up, and thus don't matter.
Examples would be the various "funny pictures" subreddits (there are about a billion), the lifehacks (useful tips, essentially) subreddits, and r/hiphop, which is a stupid board, but for totally different reasons.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
I'm aware there's stuff like Christian subreddits and others that are standouts.
However, you can look at the main page of reddit, of all the shit from the various subreddits that make it to the top. If that doesn't give you a good idea of the majority populating the place, I don't know what does.
I've never been to Reddit for longer than ten minutes, so I won't make any assumptions about it. What I do know however is that r/atheism seems to be the kind of place that makes me very, very angry.
From what I hear from friends, reddit's essentially 4chan's tumblr. How accurate is this?
I don't even know what that's supposed to mean.
4chan hates reddit. Your typical redditor adores 4chan and licks their feet when given the opportunity but just as many see the constant reposts from 4chan incredibly annoying.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
am i the only one who had to look multiple times to see that y'all weren't typing "saliva"
(I'm joking if you can't tell. My definition of "philosophical discussion" is "screw with internet pseudo-intellectuals" by bringing up incredibly obscure philosophical topics I look up on Wikipedia)

I meant "we" as in "people who use reddit".
I am not entirely sure I'd comfortably call myself a redditor since I don't have an account but I lurk there pretty often.

Fun fact: salvia's hella hallucinogenic, and hella legal in most states.
But Lesswrong is the smartest place on the internet!
allegedly
I've never actually been there and never plan to because philosophical discussions that aren't framed by anime references bore the shit out of me.
