And saying that the His Dark Materials trilogy is an "alternative" to them is silly, I mean for one thing the Narnia books are allegorical, whereas the HDM books are not. Also the storylines have little in common.
so at most you can say they are both "books about religion aimed at younger readers"
I really saw the books more as an attack on dogmatism than anything else
also something to keep in mind:
Pullman's "Authority", though worshipped on Lyra's earth as God, emerges as the first conscious creature to evolve. Pullman makes it explicit that the Authority did not create worlds, and his trilogy does not speculate on who or what (if anything) might have done so.
Hobbit Privilege is when you don’t have a history of your country being invaded by enemies and you can simply choose not to bother doing anything about other races being invaded or displaced.
Hobbit Privilege is being small and humble, so when you do something noble, everyone congratulates you, while other races are merely doing their patriotic duty (and your father doesn’t even care because he loves your brother more than you.)
Hobbit Privilege is being able to hold the one ring of power for a long time without having any major problems like becoming a wraith.
Hobbit Privilege is having second breakfast, while other races are used to having a food shortage.
They could have easily condensed the super-long battle scenes in Part 2, and cut down several miscellaneous scenes in Part 1 so as to pace it faster. They chose not to because they wanted to take their time with this installment.
I agree, but better two above-average length movies than one absurdly long movie.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
When I heard about Deathly Hallows being split into two parts, I figured it was a money-grab but I found it at least made sense, given that a hell of a lot happens in the book and most of it is, to at least some extent, important to the plot.
Of course, when Summit Entertainment went and split Breaking Dawn into two parts, I was irritated, despite not being a Twilight fan, because it struck me as a blatantly transparent attempt at milking the fandom by squeezing one extra movie out of the saga.
