But who, for example, is hurt when someone shoplifts from Wal Mart? But no one tries to justify that.

Simple. If you shoplift (for example) a t-shirt from Wal-Mart, you've hurt Wal-Mart because they now have one fewer t-shirt to sell and have not received any compensation for it.

But if you could press a button an magically make an identical t-shirt (the way you can with digital music files), would anyone be hurt if you did so without paying?

(Yes, I know this is an oversimplification, because it costs something to produce a song in the first place. But I'm trying to get Kex thinking.)
Shoplifting is such a tiny thing, though, something which Wal Mart could obviously afford every once in a while. Do you really think one ten dollar t-shirt is going to harm a multi-billion business? But for some reason, shoplifting is less common than piracy.

you are comparing apples to rocks. That is how different a digital, supply-infinite business model is to a brick and mortar, supply-limited model.

You do not know what you are talking about, and I am pretty thoroughly convinced that you're only concerned with being morally superior as opposed to making any sense.

So I'm going to leave you with what I posted earlier, and with what everyone else has posted. If that doesn't convince you, then oh well, but this is the exact reason I didn't want to discuss this in the first place and the exact reason I don't want to discuss it again.

If I was only interested in being morally superior, I would have ended this entire thing long ago and just have been content in the fact that I'm better than all of you.

  • Have I really made enough of an ass of myself on such a regular basis that me saying that unironically wouldn't come as a surprise?

Wow. I feel like an idiot right now.

There's no use mincing words, so I'll just say

    Yes indeed.
  • Well, crap.

    I'm sorry.

And...I'm outta here for a while
  • I am excited because I have a fully-formed idea for a track, and that's a rare occurrence.
  • I am excited because I have just almost-completed a track, and have ideas for a full album

I want to go take pictures later this morning, but I'm having trouble deciding between two options.

On one hand, there are a handful of signs over on Morse Road that I've been wanting pictures of, and it would be easy to park somewhere and just walk over and shoot them.

On the other hand, I've been wanting to go up to Westerville, park on a street somewhere, and go around taking pictures of all the signs they have there...because they have like 5 different styles of street blade, and they're all hideous. But this would likely walking around in the remnants of yesterday's snowstorm.

...Which one sounds like the better option? The other one will be saved for "another day".

Okay, yeah, Morse Road sounds like the better option here.

    So it's settled

well you have to decide on a name first

don't worry though, I know that feel.

Heart of the City story arcs I'm getting tired of: Heart or Dean falling asleep after reading/watching the Popular Work of Fiction of the Moment and dreaming they're in its world.

Right now it's The Hobbit, but he's done it with Star Wars at least once, and I think he did it with Lord of the Rings back in the day...we get it, Tatulli, you have nerd cred. Now get back to Heart being Heart, that's what I read the strip for.

    Solar power is so sassy.

Those were almost my exact thoughts.

Also, I think a dream I visited you and Friday and you guys gave me cake. This was important for you to know; your life would have been bleak and empty without this knowledge.
Well, if you're ever in Portland, Friday will bake a cake and you can eat some. Hell, you could even crash here and we can do cool Portland stuff like get doughnuts shaped like Voodoo dolls or get a cheeseburger with Grilled cheese sandwiches for buns or go to one of the many strip joints...

Food and stripping is kinda all we got here...
