The only people who get harmed when the industry is harmed are the businessfolk, who I do not care about, because their skills are equally useful in pretty much every industry, and in the unlikely event a record label were to fold solely because of piracy, it would not be hard for them to get a new job.
But then there are small independent labels that are run by people who really love the music.
Like Hydra Head, they just went out of business this year.
To be fair, Aaron Turner said they wen't out of business because they just never gave a fuck about money and signed whoever they wanted and never cut corners.
Which is exactly the sort of label that should get support.
But big labels with shitty execs that give artists the short end of the stick? Yeah fuck 'em.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
I grew up in the music industry, and I can attest that the industry as a whole cares only about money -- even the gospel music side of things (especially the gospel music side, they're cutthroats.) They love you as long as you make them money but when that stops, your ass is out the door.
Also, go read up on how many popular acts from the 70's, 80's, and 90s got left in the cold by the industry which pretty much robbed them blind. Quiet Riot specifically got a rude awakening at the end of a tour whenever they were presented with their paycheck, which was laughably small.
But still, I'd say you shouldn't just make the broad sweeping assumption "they're all douchebags, they deserve to be unemployed" for the simple reason that the people who deserve to be unemployed will probably end up keeping their jobs because they're rich and the people on the lower rungs of the corporate ladder will end up unemployed.

I was talking about large labels.
Yeah, small labels deserve our support, which is why things like Def Jux folding (and Hydra Head I guess but that name rings no bells to me) are baffling to me, because those are specifically the fans that almost never pirate.

Hydra Head was a small post/drone/experimental metal label owned by the frontman of Isis.

There really isn't much of a "lower rung" of the corporate ladder of big labels. They tend to hire their business people directly from other companies. There're no minimum wage workers there except the janitors and such.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
For some reason I'm thinking of back in '06 or so when Microsoft was pushing the Zune.
They only way they could get Universal Music Group on board with the Zune store was to pay them $1 on each Zune player sold, because UMG felt they were entitled for compensation for all the "stolen" music they were certain people were loading on the players.
I remember thinking "by that logic, haven't you effectively told Zune buyers (if they existed) that they can now pirate your music with a free conscience, knowing they've already 'compensated' you for it?"

Oh yeah, IIRC Dälek was on Hydra Head for a while.
DJ Oktopus and them? Cool.
Anyway, to give an example, I just sent $35 to Brainfeeder (Flying Lotus' label) for a shirt.
That's how I support my favorite artists, tbh. $35 isn't a lot, but considering how many people do this (Brainfeeder is fairly popular amongst a certain crowd) I doubt FlyLo's really hurting for cash.

When I say "businessfolk", I'm talking either CEOs or accountants. Sometimes lawyers.
I really doubt it's much of a stretch for these people to be able to find new jobs quickly.
Even if they didn't, that's operating under the extremely unlikely premise that a record company would fold due mostly to piracy.
also speaking of merch-buying I am attempting to order a FlyLo shirt.

All of this is beside the point anyway, so, yeah.
CA, I know you're getting at something there but I don't know what

I don't really play the Touhou games so they're some of the few I don't really feel bad about pirating in case I want to.
I don't actually have them on this computer right now. Didn't bother to transfer them over.
back again
guess who's back

no
that's literally like Eminem's worst mainstream song
haters gonna hate
Every once in a blue moon, I get the urge to try them.
After roughly five minutes of gameplay, the urge passes.
I like the Touhou series' setting and characters, but the games themselves are absurdly difficult and much too hard for me.
Hey CBS, give us back Star Trek
