Also this sort of thing is incredibly rare in Japan. People leave their bicycles and stuff unlocked outside in the street, and stores put stuff for sale directly in front of the store, unmonitored. So this guy could just be bullshitting.

Exchanged a lot of small presents (chocolate, etc.) with relatives I haven't seen for a long time, and some of whom I met for the first time.
I didn't know there was an Iosif in my family, for instance.
