2010: Bought this house, did my best to keep the family from falling apart, dealt with a lot of stress.
2011: Finally, finally got the nerve to actually talk to Freezy on a regular basis instead of worry about how she somehow didn't like me. My brother is finally sent to prison (which was actually an improvement on the county jail where he was), and the family begins to heal.
2012: Freezy and I are good friends and talk all the time. I read her NaNoWriMo project and end up glued to every page—a first. Granny has what we think is a stroke, and has to deal with dementia secondary to the apparent brain damage; my family finally starts talking again and we make plans to take Granny in.

Tomorrow's Christmas Eve...my family will be going over to my Grandpa's house, as usual.
He likes to give us cards with $20 bills in them, and sometimes we have a Christmas dinner there as well.
Anonus: Yeah, it does because it is. My mom and her siblings are children of alcoholics who didn't get therapy until adulthood, and they had kids who went to therapy and didn't talk about their problems (or, at least, my brother didn't :|)

You know, practically all of the Christmas songs I like are very, very old. Almost all of them are traditional, and the recordings are from the 1960s. Indeed, my favorite Christmas albums are the Ray Conniff Singers' three Christmas albums, and they predate me by well over a decade.
I can't think of many Christmas songs past 1980 that have become standards. "Last Christmas", "Do They Know It's Christmas" (which sounds like Kankri wrote it :P), etc.

"Canonical" Christmas songs made after 1980...aside from the ones you mentioned, Lee, I can only really think of "Grown-Up Christmas List" (though even that one seems to be declining in popularity), "All I Want for Christmas is You" (my favorite Christmas song), and "The Christmas Shoes".
I like to think the latter only survives because hating it brings people closer together at the holidays.
