You know, people never seem to make up their mind about Hollywood. Either it's being too hippie/Democratic/progressive or it's just recycling old values and stereotypes.

2001: Windows XP, Monsters Inc...probably other stuff too

You know...I'm not sure I understand why that Marine would have felt the need to lie about his service.
"I'm a U.S. Marine and I'm standing guard outside a school to make kids feel safe" isn't impressive enough on its own?

You won't believe how common lying about service really is; and the people who do lie about it have no idea how easy it is to detect. Like that guy on American Idol or whatever that show is called earlier this year who lied about his service, people who have nothing else better to do can and do look into these things. And the liar almost always gets caught and shamed. And everyone here knows that if there's something people fucking love to do, it's shame someone else.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Years ago, right before Usenet turned into the internet equivalent of the seedy side of Baltimore, there was this dude named Richard Bullis who was just fucking batshit stupid and a total kook who was being laughed at up and down the place. To scare the people laughing at him, he started talking about how he was in the Army as an NSA agent with all kinds of secret squirrel clearances and reporting directly to 4-star generals and shit. One person then went and pulled his military record and discovered that he, too, never made it out of boot camp. These records are publicly available, that's how easy it is to find out.

That was one of the best things about classic Usenet...the hard-headed kooks that always seemed to find enough rope to comically hang themselves.

Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
Yeah, I actually thought the writing thread was called the "writing advice thread" before Tre's response corrected me.

I would say just use "General Writing Thread" or whatever it was called.
Also if this were TVT c. 2010 some smartass would've made a "Major Writing Thread"

No, they're both real
anyone who does this to their kids is a horrible person

They let him in just because he said he was a marine?
Sheesh, anyone can say they're a marine. They didn't even make him show some kind of papers or anything?
"Mad" Jack Churchill, the Royal Army officer who captured a platoon of Germans
armed only with a fucking claymore
then again, if I saw Mad Jack Churchill barreling after me with a claymore, I'd surrender too
Probably the best bit of telly in 2012
They still are
Royal Marines are all trained from the start as commandos and they're just some crazy-assed motherfuckers
I don't think even I could have made it through their 30-week basic training. Fucking insane
