Of course I guess I can't claim that I really made the beat. All I did properly was chop up a break from an old psychadelic rock song (though the break itself is more jazz than anything) and added some bongos and a thumping noise.
I could upload the loop to soundcloud if anyone wants to hear it.
I would also like to find at some point the self-titled debut of english prog band Egg, I don't think I need to explicate why this is going to be hard to do.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I have long wanted to make a Christmas special entitled Neither Snow Nor Rain.
It revolves around two postal workers, the cynical Pollyanna and the idealistic Gregory, who are charged with delivering the children's letters to Santa Claus. Gregory jumps at the chance to visit the North Pole, but Pollyanna only accepts the assignment because her job is on the line. They report to the James A. Farley Post Office in New York City, where they are briefed by the Postmaster General.
During their journey, Pollyanna and Gregory must contend with Max, the unscrupulous CEO of big-box retailer XS-Mart. Max is intent on sabotaging Santa Claus to force more parents to resort to shopping at his stores.
The climax of the special comes when Max dresses up like a police officer and blocks off the main road to the North Pole, claiming there's an accident blocking the road ahead and that Pollyanna and Gregory should just turn around.
Instead, though, Pollyanna and Gregory decide to try a narrower, worse-maintained road...which backfires when a blizzard comes and their truck is stuck in the ice and snow. The Postmaster General contacts them and instructs them to turn around immediately for their own safety. Because Pollyanna has failed to deliver the letters to Santa on time, she is terminated on the spot.
Pollyanna begins to turn around, but she happens to glance at the eagle emblem on her jacket, which reminds her of the creed inscribed on the post office she departed from: Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.
Then something occurs to her: because she no longer works for the postal service, she is no longer under the command of the Postmaster General. Deciding to directly disobey his orders, Pollyanna digs the truck out of the snow and pushes forward to the North Pole.
Upon arriving back in the States, the Postmaster General meets privately with Pollyanna. He informs her that what she did (taking a mail truck full of letters somewhere it wasn't supposed to go) was a federal crime. But because Christmas gifts for children across the country were on the line, the Postmaster re-hires Pollyanna, with a stern warning not to do that again.
And so the special ends with Pollyanna and Gregory becoming best friends, and standing watching the snowfall from the steps of the post office. Or something like that.
(I'm worried the villain character is a bit too reflective of my, um, somewhat strawmannish political views, but it seems like such an obvious idea that I'm shocked it hasn't been done before.)

Software developer decisions that look silly 20 years after they're made: naming the system folder in Windows NT "system32".

It's the "32" that amuses me
Because the 64-bit version of Windows also calls it "system32", 'cause you know, changing the name of such an important folder would break all kinds of shoddy software that has "system32" hard-coded.

I'm reading A Christmas Carol.
Because it occurred to me a while back that for all the adaptations and parodies I've seen, I've never actually read the original text until now.
For a long time I was hung up on TTIAM being my best album despite being my first*, and lately I've come to realize that not only is that bullshit, because TTIAM really isn't that good, but I simply need to stop having it. I need to stop listening to it, stop looking at it, stop being aware it exists. I want to forget I ever made the album at all.
A tiny fragment of it--a short sample of "Intelligent Dimentia Music / Desert Radio #13" in "Standing Blind in Giza" will still live on, but that's all.
*technically the Lampshade EP and Skull Beats! are both older, but I don't have either of those anymore and frankly don't remember anything about either.
I tend to mutilate and rework my old, primitive material frequently. I admire the weird kind of creativity I had with recording back when I knew nothing about the process, and some of the material holds up shockingly well, but I'm still a serious perfectionist and a compulsive tweaker of small details

Some kind of chillwave supergroup or something idk.
I'm sorry it's that time of night when I start having dumb thoughts that don't make sense to anyone but me.
System 32 honestly sounds like some sort of matrix-like entity.
But no it's just basically the bottom brick of your computer.
I have just deleted my entire back catalog off of my laptop, including my beloved This Too is a Mystery.
Sad to see it go, but go it must. End of the month I'll start hunting down online copies.
A need to move on, mostly.
