I tried to think about it, but really, it makes no sense. If this is all stored in some sort of database it's very unlikely they would store date/time information without a year.
Unless they're REALLY trying to keep physical disk space down by making a custom column with four less characters (five if you include slashes/dashes).

The stupid thing is that they really are storing a complete date and time for each one, down to the second (as demonstrated by IJBM2's oldest posts having exact timestamps). But for some reason they choose to show only the vaguest information.

Time Warner tried to buy it both of the times it was last for sale, but walked away for varying reasons (I think in 2004 it was outbid, and in 2009 it simply lost interest). The company's inability to pay off its debt may have been one of the reasons it wasn't all that attractive, library and brand power aside.
