I'm not sure I ever made it out of that stage.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Ah, adolescence. I think I'm still trying to figure out who Tre is at the moment, hence why I try to categorize myself. I think you guys might know about me this a little better than I do MYSELF, actually.

Kinda reminds me of the way things are in those cliques you see in crappy teen movies and the like; I could fit in a lot of them but I'm still yet to figure out I don't really need to conform to any of them like every protagonist does when they have that big epiphany.

I think just about all of my friends would be considered weird by society, but dammit I love them for it

I like being weird because it's fun

    Usually, anyway

I tend to go back and forth between embracing being weird because that's who I am and being ashamed of being weird because it means I've failed at being normal.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I never saw The Breakfast Club. My sister seems to think it's a really good movie. That and The Shawshank Redemption are the ones she always tries to get me to watch YNTKT
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I will always be a bit weird and I'm OK with that. I think it's less about being weird and more about how you're weird, if that makes any sense.
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
The Breakfast Club is pure 80's schlock but Shawshank is truly worth watching

I spent much of my childhood and all of my adolescence trying very, very hard to stop being weird, and persistently failing at it.

Since then I've been more trying to work out when weird is a problem and when it's OK.  Still figuring that out, I think.
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Also Shawshank is the reason everyone wants Morgan Freeman to narrate their life story
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I would prefer James Earl Jones

    Reading the radio thread

It seems like there's a lot of "Mark and Kim" pairs out there...KOST LA and KUSA Denver (Mark Koebrich and Kim Christiansen) have them too...

Anonus you've got me thinking about WSNY

For the longest time they had "Dino and Stacy" (Dino Tripodis and Stacy McKay), then they added Shawn Ireland (who's been on many other Columbus-area stations) and it became "Dino, Stacy, and Shawn". Then in 2007 Stacy left, leaving it as just "Dino and Shawn", but she returned in 2010 and replaced Shawn.

So now they're back where they started, Dino and Stacy.

probably can't post in the radio thread due to me not listening to it very often

Tre if I buy any radio stations in the Research Triangle you can have one
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
I can't remember what the frequencies of the radio stations back home were.

Here I don't have a radio, I just listen to BBC stations via iPlayer.  There was never anything special about Stroud FM or Gloucester FM, and Heart Gloucestershire is identical to every other Heart Network station, i.e. shit.

Honestly, the only time I listen to the radio anymore is in the car.

Because when you're driving yourself 40 minutes each direction to/from school/work all alone, it gets boring as fuck

Imi I do not think you would enjoy The Breakfast Club. ^_^ The only thing I like much about that movie is the stoner guy. I love him.

I kind of assumed that was the case. Doesn't seem like my kind of movie.

I haven't listened to the radio in years. I have a CD player in my car and you know what that means DOPESMOKER BOTH WAYS
  • I liked Radio 1 when I was over there.

My car is from the distant year of 1994 and as such it is equipped with a cassette player

One of these days I shall acquire a cassette tape and see if the 18-year-old player still works
  • Man, it bugs me how boring the radio is

There's no cool metal or any kind of electronic music

Radio 1 is good, especially in the evenings when they play more underground stuff.  The presenting grates a bit at times, but the music is good.

I always found those converter things that let you play your iPod in your car cassette slot to be rather funny in a roundabout way.

Also, I think I'd have a simple enough schedule for my station: a entertainment talk and music review show interspersed with a ton of variety in the morning, with a certain theme of music for each day's programming afterward up to 8:00 pm. I dunno the details, but New Wave Wednesdays would definitely be a Thing. Maybe there could be Metal Mondays too.

And then after 8, it'd have EDM all the way. D&B in particular for the late night hours.

I keep wanting to get one of those but I'm worried I'd be tempted to fiddle with the iPod instead of paying attention to the road... >_>
  • Hell yeah. Devo, the B-52's, a-ha, maybe even some new stuff like Hot Chip or Passion Pit.

Playlists, friend! Make sure to fill them with songs you know you won't want to skip so you don't get distracted from the road. ^_^

Also, one more thing on my radio: I'd have to make sure that I didn't hire any crap DJs. Like, those dudes you want to punch through your antenna wouldn't be there.

I'd want charismatic DJs though. Otherwise the phone in contests would be dead!
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
You know what irritates me?  When DJs feel the need to interrupt the song repeatedly to remind you that you're listening to Pete Tong or whoever.  Like, who cares?

Also talking over breaks and solos.  Grr.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
They do that? I would boycott any station that did that.

Then I would kill their family

To be fair, I shouldn't single out Pete Tong who isn't that bad about it, but yeah.  Even Radio 2 does it at times.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
When stations CUT OFF FUCKING SONGS it upsets me

I think KXKL has done that many times

Also Imi, would you really kill Clear Channel's family

Also not death, but if you find a button that wipes Nexstar Broadcasting and Sinclair Broadcast Group out of existence then press it for me will ya
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I wouldn't kill anyone's family. I just added that for effect.

    Yes, fuck Clear Channel

Nexstar and Sinclair appear to have desires to become their television equivalents

The fact that traditional television is slipping in relevance (especially with the younger demographics) will probably be a boon to the hyperconsolidators when it comes to consolidating but in the end I hope they don't win

let the record (if there is one) show that I completed the final stage of the Special World at midnight
