  • I think it's more like "The Week-uhnd".

I only even know they exist via their very vague association with OddFuture, though. So don't take my word for it.

    That isn't true.

No, but these killings in America are rare enough that they're recognized as shocking. A lot would have to change for people to just become accustomed to school shootings.

    Nice.

I'd be interested to hear if it's any good, when you're done.

I'm in Aurora, caught a glimpse of the repainted Century 16

The red is now some earth toney green, and "16" is gone, replaced by some mural

In a way, he's kind of like the OF of R&B: young, vulgar and subversive. He's a bit less shocking in terms of content, though; he's more focused on "raunchy" rather than "grossout". People call stuff like him and Frank Ocean "pbr&b".

Yesterday I called up the temp agency to see if there was anything I could do today to earn some extra dough for the trip, and they had this job at a warehouse unloading a 53' truck trailer of 30,000lbs of garage door parts, piece by piece. Good work really, starting at 8am and working through to 2pm for lunch and then going around the warehouse putting these parts away. Anyway around 4.15pm a gale-force wind busted through this area, totally out of the blue. The wind was so powerful that it busted out two windshields on trucks in the parking lot and they sent us home.

Now, you all might remember that I'm on that Honda Ruckus of mine, so I got to go the 8 miles home in driving freezing rain with traffic speeding past me and splashing more ice cold water on me.  I've had better days.

I made sure to ask the fellows at the garage door warehouse where I was working at today their thoughts on if the garage door should be relegated to the back of the house out of view and they all agreed to this, so consider your position on this matter vindicated

I just saw President Obama's speech.

It's weird seeing him so visibly shaken; he's usually such a confident speaker...just kinda drives home how fucked-up this whole situation is.

Haha! I think it's funny; so many houses over the past half-century or so were built with the forward-facing garage that I think it never occurs to a lot of people that it doesn't have to be that way.

I'd just like to say that the only two people who summed up my feelings on the shooting were Flying Lotus and Carol King, whose posts elsewhere on the internet I already recreated here.

I like anyone who talks loudly about sense and (most importantly) stand behind what they say.  I don't agree with half the shit Carlin espoused but I'd listen to him any of the week over some wishy-washy sycophant.

I tend to associate reasonableness with a willingness to see other people's points of view and engage with them critically and honestly, but without mudslinging or generalizations.  It doesn't make for good comedy.

Carlin rants and raves, which I associate more with school bullies, smug nerds and tabloid media.
  • Carlin is actually quite funny when he's not ranting about Christianity, and even then he has his moments. I especially liked his bit on things everyone says when someone dies.
  • I like anyone who talks loudly about sense and (most importantly) stand behind what they say.

This almost seems like a bit of a complex; you don't seem to have respect for people who try to understand what their opponents say. Granted, there is merit in always standing by your beliefs, but it's not as important as people act.

Or the Century 16 shooting...that one threw me for a loop...I'd been there multiple times and have many fond memories of the place and I'd never expected someone to open fire at
a movie theater of all places...

Though anytime Aurora makes national news it's because some crazy fuck was doing something; back in 2009 there was some domestic terrorist making a bomb there or something...

I think I've proven otherwise. I'll listen to anyone's argument, but it'll have to be a damn good one to unseat my position on, well, anything. Some people call that "closed-mindedness", the rest of us call it "assured."

Give it time. One of these days someone who talks out of both sides of their mouth will drop the ball on you or leave you hanging. I know that I come off as a complete asshole about a great many things but if there's one thing you can take comfort in, I'll never hop to the other side of the fence on you or anyone else.

Eerily right before the shooting we'd quit going to Century 16 so much; there is a theater in Northfield named Cine Capri that we go to now...

And there are a great deal of people with "conviction" who've done the same. Doesn't mean I'll give up on my beliefs. And frankly, that you would suggest that would happen comes off as a bit hypocritical.

I think this is partly a problem with national news, though, since it only reports the worst, which can give you a skewed perception of a community.  Still, that in itself goes to show how rare this kind of thing is, for which we can be thankful.

I think Charlie Brooker made a good point, though, at the end of the video Ace Rimmer posted earlier.

You're generalizing is what I'm saying.

Well, considering you're basically giving that as the reason why I'm incorrect, I'd say that it was quite a fair assumption.
