Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
mostly because of that fucking music video it makes you sit through at the beginning
what the fuck does that have to do with Disney and Final Fantasy holy shit
I'm all sitting here wanting to see Goofy knock Garland down (geddit? GEDDIT?) and here's this horrible music with some spikey haired kid and that was enough for me

is it bad that I'm more amused than creeped out by this
It doesn't make even an ounce of coherent sense and everything is explained by the power of friendship and hearts and there are too many dumb retcons and, when I was a teenage-person, it melted my little heart to see pretty boys spew 20 minutes of sentimental nonsense every time I fight a boss, but now it just kind of makes me roll my eyes, because I got older, and read books where people talk for 20 minutes and actually manage to say something. :D
There's appeal in things that are just made to tug at your heartstrings, either to make you sad or to make you happy. I mean, The Grave of the Fireflies existed almost entirely for the former reason and it's considered a masterpiece. That said, Kingdom Hearts really is more about the characters and how they interact than actually having a strong plot.
Maybe dumb isn't the right word, perhaps silly fits it better.
I mean, it's just it has a tendency to twist in new directions that don't really make sense, and I'm just kinda like "yeah, okay" and I just roll with it because I wanna kill more things and play around in my favorite Disney worlds.
But at the same time it's kind of endearing because there aren't really many storylines as bizarre as this one.
The characters are either cameos or mary sues. KH is about atmosphere and good fights.
I think most of the Mary Sues sort of deconstruct the idea of a Mary Sue, because they all have something horrible happen to them. The only exception to this rule is Sora, possibly, but he's a fairly tolerable character regardless.
Part of what makes a Mary Sue a Mary Sue is that the only bad things that happen to them can be blamed on other people and were not caused by them at all.
But wouldn't that be just about any good character? I mean, you can hardly blame, say Harry Potter for having to fight Voldemort, or Link for fighting Ganondorf, or John from fighting Lord English, or Spike for fighting Vicious, or Simon for fighting the Anti Spiral, and I could go on all day but I won't.
I think the point is that Mary Sues often have the problem of Never My Fault; even when a Mary Sue does something wrong, it will NEVER be blamed on them.
Characters that do good things can make mistakes and still be good people. Harry Potter caused a good deal of trouble for himself and for others, and had flaws, but ultimately he was a good person. To me, a character that never makes mistakes and only suffers from other people is a little irritating. They are not a very believable human.
Who says characters have to be believable? I think there's a time and a place for fantastical characters.
Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
Well, you have to admit, Harry did not have the best self-control in Order of the Phoenix.
