I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
My MLP:FIM Paper Mario game makes me feel guilty, despite not really having to live up to the previous games but I'd like to...
TTYD is, in a way, about personal growth, SPM is about love, both romantic and platonic, and MLP:FIM is about friendship...my game would exist mostly for my own amusement :/
Also Captain Murphy dropped the deluxe version of Duality. You should get it even if you're not into rap because it's just that good and creepy-cool about cults and such.
Also, can't beat the price, totally free. Beats by Flying Lotus. We think.
edit: actually mybad, he seems to have a variety of producers on here.

Well, my game exists for me to indulge my creative urges and do whatever-the-fuck

Where in Equestria is Carmen Sandiego?
Alright, gumshoes, we're looking for Dirty Crook and Carousel Boutique. For our next clue, we've just gotten a tip from Shining Armor of ACME UnicorNet.
Hi, Greg. Dirty Crook took Carousel Boutique to Equestria's capital city, where the Grand Galloping Gala is held each year. He said he thought it would fit in among all the other upscale fashion shops. I had my guards try to stop him, but it was of no use. Catch him!
Thanks, Shining Armor. Gumshoes, to what city did Dirty Crook take Rarity's shop? Was it Fillydelphia, Canterlot, or Las Pegasus? Remember the clues we just heard: Capital of Equestria, Grand Galloping Gala, and rich ponies engaging in conspicuous consumption.

It could be worse!
Well so would mine, though mine has a plot...
I keep worrying about my villains, particularly Intestine-Ripper and co.
They're basically Count Bleck and his minions (except for Dimentio) but in the end of SPM it turns out that they do indeed have hearts, whereas Intestine-Ripper and co. are mostly lacking in redeeming traits.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
speaking of game development, I found some screenshots of that Turbografx shooter I tries working on about 10 years ago
It's a rendition of Hell, the character there flies and is fully animated while the screen scrolls right-to-left. There's split-screen parallax and the fire at the bottom is fully animated. The "lava lake" in the background is actually a photo of an abandoned lot in the California desert so it's not really that far off.
Later in this level it turns into a castle area which then scrolls up to a dark chamber where the boss is. Of course, I had a hard drive failure and lost the rom image and this is all I have left. Not much of a loss really, this looks pretty horrid by my standards

I'll be honest this actually looks pretty cool. Not on like, a technical level, but this would've been neat to play.
Are you still working on, or at least planning to someday work on, that MHz game by the way?

I'm going to try to get something started over winter break, but this final year of school is killing me. I can't even find the time to draw stupid comics.

I guess I know the basics of rap. You have to have good lyrics and a good flow, and you have to be black. I guess I have a feel for good rap and bad rap after a year or two of listening to Todd in the Shadows and whatnot.
Then again, I don't like "The World is Yours", so there's a good chance that I simply have no taste for rap.
That's a bit like saying that you know the basics about rock music because you know it has to sound good.
I mean, those are some very general statements. Dissecting a rap is a lot more like dissecting poetry than other music.
two very different examples of what is generally considered "good rap" to get you started.
1. Aesop Rock - "Daylight" (or "Night Light" they're two different versions of the same song) this is how you do good lyrics. It's on point, and the metaphors are extremely complex.
2. Tech N9ne featuring Ceza, Busta Rhymes ,Twista, Yelawolf, Twisted Insane, etc. - "Worldwide Choppers", good for sheer speed and what you'd term "good flow".
Back when the PC-Engine was a think in Japan, they had these things called "Digital Comics" which were basically graphics with voice acting, kind of like an eroge today without the smut. Pretty simple stuff. I was thinking of something on those lines

Interesting.
Do you have people to voice Deco and friends?
I'd help but I'm, y'know, male.
nope. I'd do it with pro voice actors or none at all, so the latter.

I am also a poet. Technically. So, I guess that helps.
"Daylight" is...well...this is so far from what I usually consider to be rap. I feel like comparing this to ERB would be comparing filet mignon to a Twinkie. Still, my mind recognizes it as 'good', so there's hope for me.
That is indeed the case. I'm just trying to show you what "a good rap song" is.
ERB is something totally different, but the essentials are the same. The wordplay isn't as complicated (you're not going to find anything like "you won't be laughing when your front lawn's spangled with epitaphs" in ERB) but it's still there, and it's still important. So are the references.
Honestly I found that two of the best ERBs were not coincidentally the two that both featured Watsky, who is a professional rapper (see "Ninjas in Paris" for some of his non-ERB work).

I think ERB's more focused on the words than the feel of the words. Didn't catch most of the stuff in "Daylight", but I could hear how it sounded, and that made up for it. Can't really do that with ERB.
Watsky's work is good, but he's not present enough in the Doctor vs. Doctor video to make up for Nice Peter's verse. Peter dropped the ball with that one, I believe. Probably would count Shakespeare vs. Seuss in the Top 10. Excellent performances by Nice Peter and Watsky, lyrically and visually. Could have done without the Things though.
How do you view Watsky's first verse in the Shakespeare video?
How do you view Watsky's first verse in the Shakespeare video?
It is in, IIRC, iambic pentameter.
So pretty impressive. Though his second is more immediately so.
I'd also disagree that Watsky's turn as the fourth doctor in that particular battle was anything but excellent. Though I'd argue Nicepeter's verse was decent too, and so was MC Mr. Napkins' verses as Doc Brown, though they weren't enunciated very well ("flow").

I liked the beginning of Nicepeter's verse, to be honest. It's just that the second half of it got off topic and ruined the flow of the whole thing. And I agree wholeheartedly concerning Napkins.
And Watsky's verse was too short. That is, actually, one of my biggest complaints about that one.
But if that's the biggest complaint, it's not really a complaint. To paraphrase Droop-E, "if they say it's too short, that just means they wanted more".
But if that's the biggest complaint, it's not really a complaint. To paraphrase Droop-E, "if they say it's too short, that just means they wanted more".
It's more of a structural thing. It's not just that they cut it short, it's that it ended with EpicLloyd dressed up as Marty, and I think that threw off the song for a few seconds.
There's a lot of things that must go into making an ERB.
Deciding on a match-up, finding rappers that look close enough (or good actors who can kind of act), writing lyrics, deciding how long the verses should be, what order they should be in, what the actor/rappers should be doing while rapping such and such lines. Most importantly, they have to decide who's going to have the advantage. How the battle is portrayed is going to influence who people choose as the winner. It's like creating a pseudo-narrative, and you have to factor that all in. And that's the basics. When they're doing something unusual, like in the Obama vs. Romney episode, they have to plan out that verse, the theatrics going into that verse and so on and so forth.
Oh, and the beat. There's also the beat.
There's a lot to read into everything, and that's without investigating the lyrics too deeply.

Dealing with this serial killer who does terrible things to women. Things that would probably require a trigger warning if posted on tumblr.
I now have a pronounced negative reaction upon seeing a woman with blood on her face.

I'm squandering my analytic talent on Youtube videos. I don't care. I'm a man, with my own dreams.

ERB's as much performance as it is rapping, and I feel pretty confident in my ability to judge a performance.
No pressure or nothin', I was just asking.
What's it gonna be like?

He seems like the only decent guy in the entire game. Possibly because he just talks about the corpses and doesn't put his own biases into his work.
