The Stormfront thing was only actually once or twice, and it was only one poster as far as I know, but that was more than enough.
And the arguments in OTC being due to TVTropes being a diverse forum doesn't really hold up. Everyone on that forum was perfectly capable of getting along with (for example) a soulbonder before a couple of idiots decided to do the internet equivalent of poking her with sharp sticks.
Diversity had nothing to do with it, the place was just a vitriol magnet. Envision arguments like the one we just had, but with twenty more people, most of whom over-and-misuse the word "fallacy", and constantly, and you have a vague idea. Also the forum markup sucks.
It's a very weird....religion, I suppose you could say.
They believe fictional characters are spirits, and that one can share their body with one. It's sort of a modern version of shamanism honestly, but it's a lot stranger.
The community is also unfortunately quite prone to drama.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Spacey, go grab yourself a nice cup of tea or something, make yourself comfortable, turn off any emotions and here you go: http://shii.org/knows/Sarah_Saga

i wish to come up with a song lyric for this signature, but no song lyrics are coming to mind
In the three weeks that followed, Sarah was still unemployed. She spent all her time playing video games in the family room. She would play the same game over and over—some crappy looking RPG from the 90s. It has an unpronounceable name, but Sarah said she was “bonded” to the game. She also told us that she changed her name to be that of one of the game characters. Upon further discussion, she explained that she believed she was the human incarnation of this character and that they shared a soul.
'kay um
i'm thinking this is telling me all i need to know, right here
See, I don't like to defend soulbonders because most of them I've met or heard of are kind of things about stuff, but I feel compelled to mostly due to being friends with DLC (the one I was mentioning before).
It's undeniably a really strange belief system, certainly. And I don't doubt that at least half of them are only in it because they want to feel speshul.
Yeah, the difference between OTC and the discussion y'all just had is that in OTC, it would have descended into name-calling and personal attacks instead of trying to calmly discuss things. And there would eventually be posts missing as the mods break out the riot gear and tear gas.

Mainly because there are more people involved. I mean, look at how big our arguments get, and they usually have ten people, tops.
i was googling soulbonders and there was this one who souldbonded wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiith
Joseph Frank Bruce, Sr., a.k.a. "Violent J" of Insane Clown Posse. Joe came to me during NaNoWriMo05 while I was writing a novel based on what I gleaned of his life from ICP songs and biographies. I say he's a Shaman, he's uncomfortable claiming that title, as his best friend is part Native. He frames all his spiritual experiences with Christianity, because it's what he knows and is most comfortable with. However, if asked, he'll tell you he follows the Dark Carnival, and sometimes accepts that he might be a prophet for that system. He suffers from extreme self-loathing, panic attacks, and unhealthy multiplicity, but this is mostly controlled through talk therapy and (self-)medication.
James Lowery, a.k.a. "Anybody Killa" or "ABK" of Psychopathic records (ICP's label). Part Native (Lumbee), I call him a Warrior with a Poet's soul. He came to me not long after Joe did, but has never been around much at all; when he's not recording or touring (Warrior, his fight to put food on the table), he writes (Poet). His spirituality blends Christianity, Native beliefs, and the Dark Carnival.
Yeah, true, but I also think the mods there treated every argument as a potential riot about to happen, so you got a lot of "pro-active" moderation. :(

Mainly because they were mostly potential riots. TvTropes had at least 10,000 members and less than 200 moderators, so...
Morrigan from Dragon Age is someone I've expected for a long time. I definitely expected her around the time I got Leliana, and I definitely expected her before ANY of the Wardens. My Dragon Age boom in the spring came and went with no Morrigan, but she's finally creeping up again.
If there's anything I'm really, really good at, it's melting the hearts of the colder, more callous characters. I have gotten to Kendra Daniels from Dead Space, BloodRayne, Mileena, Kira, and Frost from Mortal Kombat, and I can even get Jane Turner from Valkyria Chronicles to crack a smile if I work hard enough. I've reformed this villain and that villain, have gotten the girls from Outlaw Sports to behave, have gotten assassins to think maybe that whole taking life thing isn't a very good idea, have rendered youkai and hanyou and demons harmless. Morrigan shall be a SINCH to get into the black little heart of and I know it. Morrigan's not a villain, just a very callous and uncaring woman. I know how to deal with those. I know how to find their Sweet Spots.
Wowboosting with her is hard to do without a sex scene, so I rely on mini-cutscenes and the Dragon Age Wiki. So far the Wow has not progressed past half-Wow status and is being as stubborn as it was when it first reared its head in March. It shouldn't be too hard though. I just gotta find the connection...
Yeah no i don't think this is a person to take seriously
True, but from what I remember of the flame wars on OTC, they were typically limited to a dozen or so people, several of which were regulars. Then again, there were other parts of the forum that could get chippy from time to time, especially the RP forums.
Okay, I come home from school after Yuna had to pull a kid who was trying to hump me off of me, and find this big black thing sitting by the banister. So I'm like "WHAT THE DEUCE?!" and I'm thinking Mom got some kind of strange new machine for cleaning or something.
And then I get closer and find that the thing is actually the dilapidated remains of my computer chair, a recliner I dubbed as my "throne."
I knew it was breaking a long time ago, 'cause the left arm was loose from the rest of it, hanging by a few threads. But Mom was NEVER supposed to find out it was broken, 'cause she said after this one broke she was NOT going to get me another throne. She was gonna get me a wooden chair (I already have one, so now I'm thinking she was planning on using that the whole time) or no chair at all.
Now, what I cannot do in a wooden chair:
-Eat, 'cause it has no arms that can be effectively used as tables. My desk cannot fit a plate full of food on it.
-Lie down and nap on during those tired nights when I don't wanna go to bed, but need to rest my body for a few minutes
-Lie down on if I'm sick but still need access to the medicinal properties of FF, but am too weak to sit up.
-Use as a writing table. See the sentence relating to the desk and the plate full of food.
I am so pissed at my mom. She won't get me another throne 'cause she's blaming me for the previous two breaking, but they probably just broke from age like every other chair ever. I can't use the wooden chair that's usually only used for storage or extra seating for a guardian (NOT as a typing post, it is too far from the screen)...it doesn't even have ANY arms much less arms I can use as tables or sleep on. It has...nothing. It's practically just a stepstool with a back.
I cannot believe what I came home from school to. Quistis has set me up a spot on the floor, but I still can't get acquainted with the fact of eating on the floor, or lying on it, or having to kneel in order to see my FF clearly.

The RP forums were actually some of the better ones. There were exactly two problem posters. One of whom was eventually banned, and the other was just not allowed to participate in any RPs anymore, because everyone knew what to expect of him (which was awfulness).
It's terrible ice cream weather right now. The only reason I got some yesterday was because I went to a restaurant with someone and it had some of the most bland food I've ever eaten; he wanted to make it up to me.
^^It is also the first real snow day here, too. Where it actually stuck to the ground and didn't immediately melt away.
Well, it's also that BR's mint chocolate chip is kind of disappointing. It's got plenty of mint, but the chips aren't big enough! I'll have to try Edy's or Breyer's again sometime.

Actually she thought she was (for lack of a better term) semi-possessed by a fictional character.
Some chick from one of the FF games if I remember correctly.
DLC was indeed pretty nice, but she was also really emotional, which unfortunately made her incredibly easy for people to aggravate.
Seriously.

That doesn't make any sense, Violent J is a real person.
I think.
At least
that's what I've been lead to believe.

I kinda feel like a jerk for starting that argument earlier.
I should really not let myself get emotional like that, I guess.
beh
I can't eat ice cream anymore.
I just don't like it anymore. We always have like for or five cartons of the stuff, and I'm just sick of it.
