I think in some cases this is actually true.
LGBT-ness is so highly politicized in our society that sometimes schools will sorta turn a blind eye to it so they're not seen as "siding with liberals" or some such thing.
The proper response to a continuous assault is not to fortify defenses, as they'll just be worn down. The proper response is to destroy the assaulters. Or learn how to hide so the assaulters can't find you, but that's only worked in Fallout 3.

I need to watch this movie. Not because I think I'll enjoy it, but because I've read some criticism of its portrayal of black characters, and I want to watch the movie so I can have an educated opinion about it.
But there are plenty of organizations devoted to anti-bullying legislation and that kind of thing. But that doesn't make kids feel better. Because it's not about them. It's about an idea. That's where IGB comes in. Besides, most importantly, it's a helpful message: "Things will get better." There are no other implications.
Said implications being unintentional doesn't mean they're not there.
The idea of bullies as naturally occurring is a really, really stupid one, and I think one we're all preconditioned to accept for no good reason.
"It gets better" is a nice phrase, but it will never get better if "get stronger and deal with it" is the only advice you have to offer anyone.
Yeah, Britney Spears was shocking and scandalous in 1999, but even then it was more because she was young and cute than anything else (Madonna had been doing practically the same thing since 1984, but was very much a grown-up by then). Now she's in her 30s herself, and while she isn't quite a has-been, she's not shocking anymore.

Do they say "Don't put up with it, do what you can to change it?" No, they don't. Because that inadvertently places the blame on the victim.

IGB helps kids with the present, and the amount of support for that is good, but there needs to be an equally strong force to help kids with the future, and that force is lacking.

IGB is stupid because a kid and their parents should be able to expect to attend a school where it's safe and they don't have to put up with this kind of shit. Period. You'll notice this sort of thing doesn't really occur at the college or university level because it's now there's someone's own money involved. Amazing how that works.
Then there's the problem of these students in the system creating this violence because they're the product of worthless-ass parenting. In this case, they need to be pulled from the regular school system so none of the regular students and faculty have to suffer them anymore and kicked down to a more rigid environment like a military-style school. Yes, this will cost taxpayer money but the way things are going in America's school system, the only other alternative is to let them continue to be worthless and kicked into the real world with nothing to offer, where they'll be a burden on the taxpayer anyway.

I'm thinking about that one Penn & Teller trick with the nail gun.
At the end, Penn states that the whole trick is a lie and that he wants people to know it's a lie so they aren't complicit in unnecessary human danger. He then proceeds to prove it's a lie by placing the gun in front of Teller's throat and pulling the trigger, something he obviously would never do if there was even the slightest chance the thing would actually fire a nail.
But if you look in the comments on any YouTube video of the trick, or hell, even some saner forums, you'll find dozens of people who still believe that it's an actual nail gun and it shoots actual nails. It's amazing.
Oh, this infomercial is a gem. Apparently we all have N pounds of undigested waste in our colons, and are somehow not getting enough oxygen. Both of these claims are, of course, bull honkey, but pills that rebalance your qi will always sell to suckers!
Oh, and the main narrator mispronounces "açai" as a-KAH-ee (should be an s sound instead of a k), and "resveratrol" as res-VER-a-tol (no second r). Classy.
