So. Ratchet basically means "ghetto fabolous" but worse, but it's still a term created by those same "ratchet minorities" that whoever this jackass was trying to offend. Anyone else find that a bit... hypocritical, if not ironic?
A lot of the people near the area where I live for trying to "reclaim" the Confederate flag. Honestly, I don't think it's actually racist but it is definitely perceived that way by people who don't understand what the South's opinion on the Confederacy was.

I've lived in Nashville for four years, and a letter I wrote to the newspaper there was awarded some prize they hand out which gets the writer an invitation to a swank annual banquet, with champagne even! Anyway, being the young guy I was from the southwest, I found to my surprise that every person who stood up to present a talking point confirmed that they were a liberal, and that Nashville at large was mostly a very liberal city, even more so than Memphis. Then later it becomes clearer as this is the city that spawned the likes of Tim Wise and Al Gore.
At the same time I was living there, a new french cabaret-style joint opened up downtown which featured only transgendered and transsexual performers. This was in the late 90's, mind you, but it was still welcomed into the city without much fuss. However, not much later it did involve one of the lowest points in US Military history as about 35 miles north is Fort Campbell, one of the US army's largest installations; anyway it wasn't long before the soldiers there decided it would be a good time to head down to this cabaret house and drunkenly heckle the performers. One of the soldiers actually fell in love with one of the performers, and his fellow soldiers -- the very ones who suggested visiting this place every weekend -- went while he was asleep in his bunk and beat him to death with baseball bats for it. This news rocked the country at the time, the performance house closed not long after due to the press always hounding them, and Showtime IIRC made a TV movie over it.
Yeah, but the only thing Nashville had to do with this tragedy was its proximity towards said base. It got a story in the paper and on the nightly news and that was about it, and nobody raised a stink about it.
