Tre is pronounced "tray" by the way, in case that wasn't obvious

    oh hey that rhymed, cool
  • Actually, ä is more like an eh sound. It's always me, isn't it?

That depends on what language we take the umlaut to be from, I suppose.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    @Tre: The ä is a German/Finnish thing, so... don't feel so bad.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
@Läzuli: It's basically identical in phonetic value in the two big languages that use it (being a long version of the short English e in German and Finnish).
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
It's still "super lazily," so it's all good.

    my
    name
    should
    probably be
    written "tré"

but I don't care how it's written and usually I'm too lazy to put the accent

The avatar I choose to represent myself to the rest of the Tumblr community is a 5-year-old girl who talks to squirrels

I wonder what this says about me
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
well, can you talk to squirrels

Also I'm worried Rarity isn't big enough in this avatar

    so make her bigger

also i never tried, maybe i should
  • Mine is a zombie of myself. (Which I should probably change since it's November but whatever, I'm not dying to at the moment)

Either way I don't think you're in bad company, there.

  • Talking to squirrels is easy.

Getting them to answer is much harder.

What is that 3 from? Mine is from Omnes Black.

  • That 3 is the logo of a big wireless network over in Europe. Hutchison Whampoa owns it.

Whale says they suck in the UK but I loved their ads over there.

The year that Disney purchased the (now divested) assets of Capital Cities/ABC, Inc., and the year that Time Warner purchased the 81% of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. that it did not already own

Also Bill Clinton was re-elected this year

^I knew I'd seen that somewhere before...

Shameful confession: I can't tell the difference between Helvetica and Helvetica Neue
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    Me neither. *shrugs*
  • Helvetica Neue is the one Apple ships more of on your Mac when you get it.

Original Helvetica just has normal, oblique and bold variations.

Helvetica Neue has normal, oblique, bold, black, light, oblique light, oblique black... and that's not even counting the condensed variations.

Apple likes that little girl, so it seems.

    Look at the obliques.

Helvetica's seem a bit more adapted to the slant than Helvetica Neue's.

^I find myself wishing that Christian Schwartz would do more widths of Neue Haas Grotesk

    obligatory mention of Akzidenz-Grotesk
  • yeah but nobody is going to name a movie character "Akzidenz"

    because nobody can say "Akzidenz"

(does it sound like "accidents" with more z's?)

I think it was pronounced out loud in the Helvetica movie.

I wish AG got more praise. It's a rather seminal sans-serif...

(Also, I looked up "akzidenz" a while ago; it's German for "job printing", a term that once referred to the printing of advertisements)
  • would anybody lend me Anzeigen Grotesk?

i need it for a thing.
  • or if they could do said thing for me it would be swell

    Have a bedtime story.

I haven't read/heard this book in what must be at least a decade but it still makes me laugh like an idiot.
