language is a tool, nothing more, nothing less.

If my point is conveyed, it has done it's job.
Going with the tool metaphor, using "ironic" in place of several disparate, yet perfectly good English words is akin to using a heavy rock to pound a nail. Yes, it will drive that nail in, but why would anyone do this when there's a hammer available? I guess if you're going for the caveman dullard look it works

I'm not advocating that we strictly adhere to the Queen's english but the line needs to be drawn somewhere. There's nothing wrong with having a standard and sticking to it.
  • They'd use a rock because it'd be ironic.

Lab has finished and I'm back home. Man, that was rough. So, some highlights for nobody, those who care:

-Now having interweb connection gives me a chance to get some homework done. However, I made little progress on my big essay due tomorrow.
-We went 30 minutes late. In fact only 2 out of 6 TAs got out early/on time.
-I was actually quite busy with work this time because people needed a lot of chemicals and kept breaking stuff
-I almost screwed up someone's chemicals
-My supervisor brought her kid in again today. I'm always entertained by this. Mostly because my supervisor does not come across someone who would ever think about having children.
-My supervisor also used the phrase "fuck up my swag." I kinda really like her as a boss.
-I narrowly dodged the impulse to ask out one of the TAs. GOOD THING I'M A SISSY COWARD. Also, possibly hairy work ethics.
-My dad called me. It's always a mixture of nice and strange when he calls since we don't talk much. Kinda confuses me emotionally. Unfortunately, I missed his call.
-Also, this job has preyed into some of my OCD tendencies: we have these thin stirring rods. They break quite easily, and I entertained myself by snapping a few on half. Why I enjoyed this quite a bit I don't know.

do you think you'll get to talk to him again?
  • Anon: Yes, if I work next week. He always talks to me when he comes for his key and leaves after lab. He's pretty nice to me and kinda on the dorky side so it makes it pretty easy for me to banter with him. Heh.

I really wish I didn't get...crushes on people. It makes me feel 14 and it gets my hope up. I should know by now, in any social situation, I should never get my hopes up.

Aww. I'm so socially inept that I'm not sure what gesture is appropriate here, so I'll just offer you e-hugs.

No, that's called "willful stupidity" which covers the hipster side of the misuse of the word, anyway

    Thanks guys =)

Yeah, I dunno, sometimes I find my social situation absolutely pathetic and feel so whiny. But, gah, it's frustrating when you trying changing something that just won't oh well.

At least I have Thanksgiving break to look forward to. I'll probably get to see mandude. At least I found one  human in meatspace who still cares even if he's 2,000 miles away and we're on romantic hiatus.

It's nice to have somebody, isn't it, even if they're physically distant?

If something you see here inspires you to write a racist response to
it (and ANY RESPONSE TO ANTI-RACIST WORK IN DEFENSE OF WHITENESS/WHITE
PEOPLE BY A WHITE PERSON IS RACIST), don't put it where any people of
color can see it. That's not only racist, but also rude. It's even more
obnoxious if you try to hide that you're doing that from me. And I'm not
going to let you off lightly for it. If you absolutely need an outlet
to say your racist thoughts, my ask and submit boxes are better.

White followers, if you reblog anti-racist writings originally

I feel like either this really is confusing or my reading comprehension is failing.

My interpretation: tl;dr, POC's are totally unable to deal with racism, so white people should divert racism to themselves to protect the poor POC's.

Many problems with this POV. Won't explain because about to pass out, but many problems.
  • Because you see, white people are much stronger-willed than minorities, so we're better able to handle criticism. Whereas if you direct it at someone who's not white, they'll just explode.

This is of course, not at all racist.

  • I've kept religion in its place
    So hard and resolute
I see you've found the perfect space
And you found my favorite suit

    Can I watch you breathe?

All those notches on the belt
    Those diets on display
I took a pill or two myself
    And I'm here now anyway
    Just an ordinary day
    Do you have to leave?

    Keep it singular and simple
    With nothing underneath
And let my epitaph be something
    That my children will receive
Here lies a man who will believe
    When it's convenient to believe

The other day I was coming down High Street (i.e., the busy thoroughfare that runs through OSU's campus) and "Call Me Maybe" was on the radio, so I started singing along loudly.

Made me wonder if Anonus would be embarrassed to ride in a car with me.

I tend to dislike it when others insist on singing along with things...I don't know if you'd be an exception :/

Oh, all right. No singing along with the radio when Anonus is in the car unless they play songs from a Disney movie.

.DS_STORE is a junk file created when someone opened whatever the folder was on a Mac OS X machine.

Don't know about .5 or .splash...

The white man's burden, you mean? I thought we were past that, and you'd think Tumblr was past that, given how much they cry about social justice.

As for misuse of "ironic"? I blame Alanis Morrissette. Seriously.

Because I feel like rambling about them but nobody will listen.

    I listen, usually...
  • Find the right way down through the maze, to the food, then find the exit. Push the exit button. If the food tastes awful, don't eat it, go back and try another way.

They want the same thing that you do, really, they want a path, just like you. You are in a maze in a maze, but which one counts? Your maze, their maze, my maze. Or are the mazes all the same, defined by the limits of their paths?

Existence is simple: find the food, push the button, hit the treadmill.

But sometimes it gets much harder. Sometimes the food makes you sick, or you can hear nearby feet racing you, urging you on. Sometimes the button only gets you landed right back in the beginning of the maze again, and the food won't satisfy.

There is only one path and that is the path that you take, but you can take more than one path.

Cross over the cell bars, find a new maze, make the maze from it's path, find the cell bars, cross over the bars, find a maze, make the maze from its path, eat the food, eat the path.

    Oh, right. Sorry. >_<

US 23 and US 42 overlap for a few miles in Delaware, Ohio. But it's a strange setup--northbound 42 joins 23, but to stay on 42 northbound you have to exit at William Street, then turn left onto Lake Street. It always struck me as bizarrely incomplete.

But while poking through some old USGS maps earlier, I found this: a map from 1960, before the bypass was built. It shows the proposed alignment of the modern highway, but also a proposed connector to US 42! (I circled it in black.) Said connector was never built, and now I wonder why.
