It's because Sears has dem Craftsman tools.

I remember going there on Black Friday last year. And also ESPN had just rolled out their overloaded-with-crap college football graphics.

Designing for ESPN must be a repetitive job. Everything needs to be visually elaborate and/or evoke sci-fi.

Walmart, mentally challenged? Hah. Kmart (or, at least, the one over in Dale City) makes Walmart look like the protagonist of A Beautiful Mind. :P Not even Sears merging with them has completely removed their rather severe case of herp-a-derp.

On the other hand, I'm actually afraid to go into high-end stores like Nordstrom or Needless Markup, since I'm sure they'd give me shit for not at least dressing for church or court first. [lol]

How do I do emoticons here?

^^^You don't do pictoral ones. They're animated and they annoy me, so they're turned off.

    ^^Bye then.

...You know, now that I think about it, something about JCPenney's previous logo made it feel weirdly feminine, too, despite being straight Helvetica:
    image

Also, I don't remember this looking nearly this bad. I guess it's been a while since I actually saw it:

The Marshall Field's logo is a bit blobbier than it should be. Here is a better, but smaller, one.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Kmart ain't exactly genius material either, admittedly.

I used to read the JC Penney catalog when I was a kid. YNTKT

^^ Bad vector tracing, probably. The one you posted does indeed look better.

...for some reason talking about the intelligence levels of retail chains amuses me.

Kmart seems less "herp-a-derp" and more "Stepford Smiler" to me.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
Target seems a few notches higher than Kmart, I think.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    That was fast.

What kind of ice cream did you get?
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I like Cookies and Cream, myself. And also Blue Bunny's "Peanut Butter Panic".
  • I like peanut butter and chocolate quite a bit, but I doubt my bro would want to eat any.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
We have a whole container of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in the freezer. I'm tempted to go get some.

Buuuuut...I have my bed torn apart so i can clean under it. So it'll have to wait a few minutes.

I want a game where I can run a broadcast television network.

    ...What would you call it?

While diiging through all the crap in here, I found one of my old Animaniacs tapes. Wow, the last season or two of this show sucked -- all the good writers had left, and PatB had gotten their own show by then, so they were stuck doing S&F-esque shallow parodies. Ugh.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
What was your least favorite segment? Apparently you're supposed to hate the Hip Hippos, but they never grated on me.

...I have been wanting the last 24 episodes on DVD, for some reason.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
The Hip Hippos never really grated on me as much as just, y'know, being bland. It was probably the most shallow segment of the show, even more so than Buttons and Mindy or Katie Ka-Boom; B&M were formulaic, to be sure, but they could at least do something interesting from time to time, and while Katie was a one-joke character, she was cute and her flipouts could be interesting.

But I think the Goodfeathers probably grated on me the most. The "hey we're the three leads from GoodFellas AS PIGEONS!" thing got old pretty fast, and while they frequently did some interesting things with the animation...out of a cast of one-joke supporting characters, they were probably the one-jokiest of them all.

I wouldn't seeing the rest of the series come out eventually, just for the sake of completeness, but seeing as I hardly watch the first three sets these days, it may just sit on my shelf looking out-of-place. :P
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I haven't watched it in a while. Other things have eaten my attention.

I want to design something but I lack ideas and also design skills
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Same here, though I did at least watch the first set or two. Really, the first season is the one to have, since while it does have the occasional bad episode ("Critical Condition" or "Baloney and Kids", anyone?), the quality is consistent and the writing is sharp, so even the misses aren't so bad. The 4th season is the one you're probably best off skipping, since it was the first one made completely under The WB's aegis and with the E/I mandates fully in; a lot of the edgy humor had to be toned down, and they had greenhorn writers working on the show, so the quality was awful
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
...ugh, I wanna do something fun.

Maybe I'll think about "Odyssey" more.

And this tape has Doug on it past the A! episodes.

    why.avi

At least this appears to be a Nick episode and not a Disney/ABC episode.

Oh, and bonus: An ad for a "Totally '90s" CD. ON A TAPE THAT I'M PRETTY SURE WAS RECORDED IN THE 1990s. WUT.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
You don't like Doug, do you?

...how did you get your stash of tapes? Most of mine came from thrift stores or the flea market.

    THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Well, I don't hate Doug; I'd watch it if it was on, but it wasn't my favorite. That and I totally shipped Doug/Patti and as far as I know they never got together. :(

Most of ours are ones we recorded ourselves; having had a working VCR somewhere for most of the past 30 years has helped. :D

And also, I find it odd that people would be having nostalgia for the 1990-1995 era just two years after it ended (this tape was recorded in 1997). If this tape were from 2007, I'd understand, but...eh?
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    ...god.

Now I wonder if you and Ray Glasser could compare collections. He is the ever-present "videoholic" on YouTube, having literally several thousand Betamax tapes recorded from the 1970s to about 2007.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Well, I already know I wouldn't be able to match that. We have maybe 20-50 truly historic tapes (I've never bothered counting them), and several more pre-recorded tapes. At some point, I should pull them all out and run a head count.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I tried that once, from memory.

...now I remember my February 2000 UPN-era KTVD tape with some KUSA on it. A VCR ate it on May 22 of last year. I was not happy.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Argh, I hate it when machines do that. I haven't had it happen in a while, though my Sony came close a few times (which is why I stopped using it).
  • I hate OTC because of the common populace's habit of not knowing when to fucking stop when it comes to the Point of No Return on most threads.

A Point of No Return is a moment or post in a thread that will merit a derail about one person's statement, which can be ignored and unaddressed until it is fixed and converted to be a worthwhile discussion.

Sure, there are some people of the opinion that pedophilia is not inherently bad. Except it's an opinion, and them having their own opinion, regardless of whether or not they plan on acting on it, agree with it, spread it or distribute it in any manner. What the reader of said comment cannot comprehend, for some STUPID fucking reason (I mean seriously), that you don't need to try to convince them or extort them into changing their mind. No amount of sarcasm, confusion, anger, dick-measuring, condescending, studying, information relaying or negotiation will help. If someone has an opinion, remember that the chance of you changing it is very close, maybe even lower than 0%. Do not waste time and effort into a discussion that is not worth the emotional, temporal or bodily effort.

It's like people who say "MLP Porn is far more pure than human porn".

Will I argue against that point? No, because I am not stupid. What will I accomplish by trying to convince or belittle said person that MLP Porn is far less pure than human porn? Absolutely nothing. I see people WRITE 4 PAGE ESSAYS about this shit on a regular basis, trying to oppose something as dumb as "Babies are parasites, so it's okay to abort them" or "Murdering millions of gang members in america will solve the gang problem". Are they dumb? Yes. Are you going to waste time and effort on dumb things? No, you should not. Not if you are bored, not if it will make your dick bigger, not if you might earn lulz. Don't do it.

Don't do it Don't do it Don't do it Don't do it Don't do it dont do it downt do it down t di dont dot it dopnt dont dont sdinpd sont sonotjdifgjf Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
  • I just really wish people would stop investing so much effort and detail into things when a simple "I don't agree." would suffice.

I don't agree that rape fetishism is okay. Why? I don't need to tell you.

I don't agree that MLP is a bad show.

I don't agree that forced adoption should be the solution to abortion.

I don't agree that Obama should force cut any revenue.

I don't agree that teenagers should be fed drugs to reduce their mental instability when growing up.

    I don't agree that I don't agree I don't agree. I JUST DONT AGREE.

then don't go in OTC, it's clearly bad for you and a lot of those opinions sound insane.
  • edited 2011-11-27 02:56:04
    THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
The other problem with OTC is that there seems to be something akin to bloodlust going around there. People don't want to have a proper debate or an intelligent conversation; to them, threads are battlegrounds and they don't want to talk, they want to FIGHT and, hopefully, WIN.

Someone needs to tell them that OTC is not Jerry fucking Springer. :P

The only thread I read on a regular basis in OTC is DJay32's thread, and even that has had a few hijack attempts from the perpetually angry.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I was never good at debate. Sometimes I was worried this made me stupid. (I was a regular poster in the original IJBM for most of 2010.)
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I'm not all that great at it either, but then, I'm not always the greatest at expressing myself in general, and so I come off as ignorant sometimes. :P
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
...shit. I wanna buy MGM again, for its library, as per usual.

I still don't know what I'd do with the trademarks. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer would probably be left alone, United Artists would be brought back and its name slapped onto new James Bond movies, and I don't know about any others.
  • When metagrounded people have an enjoyment/addiction to arguments, they develop this disgusting MUST WIN MUST WIN MUST WIN attitude about them.

Just like those people who go batshit about losing at games or playing against modes/characters they hate, when people get into argumentative scenarios they hate, they become unbearable.

Which is why I like timid people like LouieW who never try to win arguments, ever. Hell, LouieW just lets you win regardless if his side is completely sound.

...So I was thinking that ABC Inc's aspirations to enter the film business are done, for now.

The company will refocus on the production and distribution of television content, with attention devoted to the growth of the properties aimed at children, teenagers, and women.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
That leaves me out, unless I consider myself a child. So I think I will.

^^Don't worry, we want to target everyone, really. I know we own a stake in Lifetime, but we think women are a profitable audience, and we feel we inadequately target the others.

    ^A woman.
