AU: No, it's not; they've always had kind of a Vitriolic Best Buds relationship, but the backstabbing and HUGE BITCH BLUH BLUH-ish behavior have gotten quite a bit worse since 2009. This is a family where the female siblings are known for being manipul8tive and passive-aggressinve, so...

Also, after seeing some of the reviews on this Lifetime movies blog, I have to wonder if watching too many of them on regular TV (back when the networks would still run cheap melodramas instead of big theatrical releases or the Hallmark Hall of Fame...well, those are typically big-budget melodramas, but still) may have screwed me up as to how relationships go.

Also also, Mom is trying to set me up with one of my granny's friends that's about my age. The thing is, this friend is fairly religious and I haven't gone to church in years, and while she's a nice lady, I'm not really interested in her like that. But you know, I Want Grandkids and all. :P

That said, I'm starting to wonder if my standards are still way too high. Finding a cool, level-headed woman that's not crazy, at least somewhat One of Us, wants kids and isn't a Gog damn Fundamentalist Christian? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I'd be better off reenacting Weird Science, since I'm clearly asking for something that doesn't exist. :(

...does online dating still weird you out?

I don't think I'd have found someone like CA in meatspace.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
AU: Yes, unfortunately, but then dating in general strikes me as kind of gross. Meeting people has always been hard for me, and meeting people with the stated purpose of (eventually) having sex with them just seems...skeevy. Like legal prostitution, almost.

As much as I'd like to have a friendship that blossoms into a romance (which is really my lifelong dream), I've still got a way to go before I can get my hopes up.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
The idea of dating always struck me as weird, for some reason, but not gross. Probably because I didn't desire sex until I left middle school (I never went to public high school, and never will).
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I had the double whammy of undiagnosed Asperger's and being a victim of abuse working against me. I was so confused about relationships in high school that I ended up scaring away pretty much everyone I liked, and that continued well into my adult life because I simply didn't understand what I was doing wrong or why people acted like I was being a jerk or a parasite. As I've noted before, I'm pretty sure I retreated into the pseudonymic madness of 4chan because I'd simply given up, and it took a move away from the town I went to HS in and the discovery of TV Tropes to really snap me out of it.

Hell, I wasn't really truly over my main high school crushes until this year. I GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN 1995. I HAVE NOT SEEN THE WOMEN IN QUESTION SINCE 1992 AND 1995, RESPECTIVELY. THAT WAS 19 AND 16 YEARS AGO. THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY FUCKING PATHETIC THAT IT MAKES MY BRAIN PAN ACHE WITH DISGUST.

Even knowing why it happened that way still doesn't make me feel any better about being so stuck in the past. :P

    THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I wouldn't say you're weird; I think it's more that mass media is made to appeal to teenagers and young adults and it doens't help that they've been Flanderized into hysterical, hormone-addled dolts who pretty much have to mate or die.You know, since there's N billion of us people around and we don't really need to make more of ourselves, but our bodies are still wired to think we're living in hard times.

I never felt like the stereotypical horny teen; I always wanted a snugglebuddy and companion more than a "typical" girlfriend, since if I wanted sex, I could just masturbate and feel plenty satisfied.

I'm back. It was a success; we got the $115 Kindle for $89, plus a coupon for $25 off the next time we shop at Meijer!
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    That's good.

They had 8 of them in stock. We were #4 in line.

Also the Kindle line was entirely surrounded by the video games line. Because kids these days would rather play their Xbox Wiis than read books. :P

I was hoping something bad wouldn't happen to you. I know it's Black Friday.

The people in our Meijer seemed rather well-behaved.

...It helps that Meijer doesn't close for Thanksgiving, so there was no pushing and shoving to get inside when the sales started. Everyone showed up early and was already in line when 4:00 came around.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
What else did you do at Meijer?

That was all, just the Kindle. Oh, and an SD card, because it was on sale for $9 and I'm going to need one when I get my new camera in about...*checks watch* 30 days and 1 minute.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
...ugh. I feel too energetic for 3AM.

And here I feel too energetic for 5AM, despite being sleepdep'd as hell.

At least I'm no longer in "must post emo garbage that makes Loni Jay feel bad" mode.

CA: Hmm? I haven't been paying much attention to the TVT forums the last day or so.

Lee: I complained about something she said a long time ago, only to find out that it was a big misunderstanding (for which I was partially at fault).

I'm on another pony high, it seems.

I listened to the leaked Pinkie Pie song, "Smile Smile Smile".

Yeah. I found it in the MLP thread over in WA.

    CA: Oh, okay.

AU: Any comment on my last post here about romance?
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I never really wanted a snugglebuddy until CA came along, really.

^ Same here. But you know, swap "CA" for "AU".
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
...sometimes I worry about shoving me and CA's love down peoples' throats.
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
Ah, I see. I've wanted one ever since I hit puberty and possibly even before, though I should also say I've always been kind of clingy due to my mental issues.

  • ...sometimes I worry about shoving me and CA's love down peoples' throats.

If it helps, it doesn't seem like you are to me. Also, it's really cute

  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
It is really cute. I'm not bothered by it at all.

Anyway, I think this discussion is dead, but I didn't feel any significant interest in sex until I was about 18. I guess that would be considered kinda weird.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    ...well, thanks, I guess.

I never really thought of myself as cute, but I do think of CA as such.

So I had a dream where I was trying to take a train to Denver, but there was a mix-up with the tickets and it was taking forever to get it sorted out because it was time for Christmas travel.

And for some reason there was a large flimsy-looking sign over the ticket counter that said "DENVER" in Arial Bold.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
What did the train station look like?

It looked very "cheap" to me. It was in a small building with a worn-looking linoleum floor and a dirty drop ceiling, and the walls were plastered with cheap-looking signs in Arial and Helvetica.

...It reminded me of standing in line at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

    ...weird.

Reminds me of the dream King Soopers in the apartment building's basement. It looked the way a store on Saturday Night Live would.

I was in the Kroger in Reynoldsburg earlier and realized that, aside from the ugly late-2000s decor, it very much resembles the kind of grocery store that tends to be in my dreams. Very small, public restrooms placed in an otherwise employees-only area, and a second level above the pharmacy with employee access only.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I had a dream about a mall with a big furniture store in it in 2001. It was either that, living spaces, or both.

    THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
I just watched an interview with AH on YouTube. hE tALKS, uH, kINDA lIKE tAVROS,

Which I found a bit weird because I figured he'd be more of a Dave-ish coolkid. Huh.

Also, going back to relationships for a sec because squiddle mentioned it, I saw this bit on Romantic Two Girl Friendship:

This passage from Tik-Tok of Oz, Betsy's introductory adventure, says it all. Context is the discussion of whether or not the orphaned Betsy should be invited to live in Oz. Dorothy's opinion was very positive.Ozma laughed at the wistful expression in the girl's eyes, and then she drew Dorothy to her and kissed her.
"Am I not your friend and playmate?" she asked.
    Dorothy flushed.
"You know how dearly I love you, Ozma!" she cried. "But you're so busy ruling all this Land of Oz that we can't always be together."

And I was like "That is pretty much my dream relationship right there." Lots of hugs and kisses, but not all that much sex (and if we were having sex, we wouldn't make a big deal of it).
