Somehow I have developed a corporate crush on Cedar Fair. Weird.
...The two amusement parks I have been two in real life, Kings Island and Geauga Lake, were later purchased by Cedar Fair, but not until after my visits. The former was still Paramount's Kings Island the last time I was there, and the latter was Six Flags Worlds of Adventure.
(Also, a year or two after purchasing the Six Flags park and changing its name back to the original "Geagua Lake", Cedar Fair closed the amusement park portion; now it operates solely as a waterpark named "Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom".)

By the time I went there (summer 2003) both the amusement park and former SeaWorld portion were owned by Six Flags and operated as a single park, connected by a long bridge over the lake.

Type design seems like a field that would be hard to break into.
There's this whole "nothing new under the sun" thing going on--no matter what you make, it's going to be compared to existing typefaces. So you have to work to give people a reason to choose your new typeface over the myriad of existing ones.

I seem to be obsessed with amusement parks right now.
Strange, as I really don't enjoy those all that much.
I'm watching one of our old VHS tapes (this one appears to have been recorded in October of 1988, because of all the Mickey stuff), and damn, I wish we'd been able to get better signal on channel 35, because there are some wonderful old commercials on here.

My interest in amusement parks is weird.
I don't actually enjoy going to them that much, because I hate all but the most gentle rides, but I find learning about their histories, the companies that operate them, and they way they've changed hands over the years fascinating.

You know what I find strange? Cedar Point has been in operation as an amusement park for over 140 years now, and there don't seem to be any reports of deaths at the park.

On August 23, 1999, a 20-year-old man from Long Island, NY became free of his restraints while on this roller coaster and fell to his death. An investigation showed that the ride restraints were working properly and were still secured when the train returned to the station. Less than one year later, a 13-year-old boy, concerned that he was not properly fastened into his restraints, intentionally slipped out of them as the train was ascending the lift hill. He jumped onto the adjacent maintenance catwalk and escaped serious injury.
That's seriously ballsy and also dangerous...and yet it probably saved the kid's life.

I know they owned theme parks and radio stations and television stations and Hanna-Barbera Productions and Ruby-Spears Enterprises and Worldvision Enterprises (which was once the syndication division of ABC, known as ABC Films; Taft sold it to Spelling Entertainment Group in 1988.).
AU: This was back when we lived in Palmyra; Richmond stations were a relatively easy catch for us, but our antenna sucked (we didn't have a mast or a rotor for serious DXing) so we only had a clear picture on channels 8 and 12 until we got cable in 1990.
Oh man, and the infamous "we beat the rap" episode of Tiny Toons is on this tape. It's almost as Totally Radical as Teen Witch, between the forced cheese-rap and the equally forced glam rock. Oh yeah, and the random swipes at disco and...the Charleston? Ahahahahaha.
