Yeah, it's not hard. Probably the most tedious bit is putting the riser bolts down and attaching the motherboard to the case chassis. Then you plug in the CPU (not hard), then the RAM (not hard), and whatever expansion cards you have. Basically if you can plug a cartridge into a game console you can build a computer.
  • Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
    Nah,

The hardest bit was getting the whole Master/Slave drives right and their pins right
  • THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS
And even that is a thing of the past now that SATA is standard. SATA's no harder to install than a USB drive.

Harry Potter book release: don't worry, no spoilers.

Showed up at seven, in full costume for a nine am release. Devoted no? I was one of the few to dress up, and I was the best-dressed. I'm not being vain, I honestly had the most detailed and accurate costume there.

We were told in line, that the best-dressed person in line gets to open the box and have the first Half-Blood Prince book. So, I'm a shoo-in, aren't I?

    WRONG.

fucking moo brings her bratty sprog in at 8:59am dressed in a generic Kmart cape with stars and glitter and fucking gaudy BLAH. Twig for a wand.

OMG WITTLE PWESHUS SO CUTE OMG YOU CAN OPEN THE BOX AND HAVE THIS BOOK YOU CAN'T READ AND *fawning fawning, blatant breederism etc*

THE FUCKING KID WON'T EVEN REMEMBER THIS. THE BOX OPENING WAS MINE. MIIIIINE.

I wouldn't have minded if someone had said "Oh look Sass, you are best-dressed but would you mind if this land-mine amputee opened the box instead?" I would have said "Absolutely no problem. Go for it." But no. FUCKING CROTCHDROPPING GETS THE HONOUR. I'm furious. On principle of course, not out of any sense of entitlement. Well yes, entitlement also. But I WORKED FOR IT, I DESERVED IT.

I made an effort. I spent money making an effort. I showed up early. I will remember and treasure this event for ever and eternity. And I'm passed over for an ugly little brat with a sparkly tie. Woo loving woo.

I didn't stab her in the eye with my wand. I WANTED to. I talked about doing so VERY FUCKING LOUDLY. I was going to eviscerate her mother with the cover of my brand-new copy.

I fucking hate breeders and child-lovers. FUCKING GO TO HELL.

I'm so pissed about this, sorry. It's just that in ten years time, this kid won't remember what she was doing on July 16th 2005. In ten years time, I will be remembering how I was deprived of this nerdly honor by an opportunistic twat breeder and her shitling. I'm hurt. All my life, nothing has gotten to me more than being deliberately ignored, or passed over. Honestly; that's the sort of thing that can make me cry in public. Or key your car. Or viciously murder you and your family in the heat of frustration and never-ending denial

    Congratulations breeders, you win.

Edited to add: To all of you who are calling me immature etc, I'd like to add that you make a very good point, but have you considered GO FUCK YOURSELF? If you're so anal-retentive, go back to the other community and go on with your breeder-humping.

  • A razor company once invited George Bernard Shaw to shave his famous beard. He responded with a postcard:

    Gentlemen:

I shall never shave, for the same reason that I started a beard, and
for the reason my father started his. I remember standing at his side,
when I was five, while he was shaving for the last time. “Father,” I
asked, “Why do you shave?” He stood there for a full minute and finally
looked down at me. “Why the hell do I?” he said.

You know I try to not to fall into the temptation of schadenfreude but that story about the Harry Potter book release reminds me that there's justice in this universe and never fails to make me smile

Forsythe: Yeah, the copious amounts of name-calling aren't going to change the fact that she's a horrible person who just wanted 15 minutes of fame at an event that was meant for children.

  • How difficult it is to throw away magazines after you’ve read them? For
many of us the answer is – very. They are shiny, they smell of print,
and we like to think that we will need them one day for
some uber important reference. And that is why magazine clutter is
virtually impossible to conquer. But maybe we don’t have to? What if
instead of throwing away our precious Vogues and ADs, we could turn them
into a design inspiration? Designer Rush Pleansuk did just that. His Full-filled
coffee table embraces magazines and uses them as a structural element.
By filling this metal folding with your periodics - you create a
table surface and, at the same time, turn your clatter into storage.

    image
it seems like a cool idea, but then what if you have too many/few magazines

  • Oh Planned Parenthood, too bad you're so underfunded.

I know I should like PP more, but I had a bad experience at the one here that it soured me to the place >.>
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
There's over 800 PP locations in the United States, I'd say that alone proves they get plenty of funds
  • 800 isn't that many.
  • The one near here is in an area where it gets high traffic but is a woefully small facility and cannot easily support the amount of people in need. It could just be here, though, and other facilities are fine. Plus, I thought there have been budget cuts to PP, but I don't how much.
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Actually it is. Their coverage across the United States is such that just about every citizen of this country is well within walking distance of one.

The one nearest me is not within walking distance...

IIRC there are about 10,000 cities in the US. So that's one Planned Parenthood per 12 cities or so. that sees a little skimpy to me, especially given that funds are probably distributed in a reasonable manner.
  • It would depend on the definition of a "city" as opposed to an
unincorporated suburb or county location. In 2002, there were 19,000
municipal governments throughout the US, but as many as 30,000
    incorporated cities.

There are over 43,000 places with unique
zip codes, and probably no "cities" without their own zip codes. Many
large cities have 2 or more zip codes. A guess would be around 20,000 to
25,000 including larger towns and such.
ok vague answer i need a better one gimme a sec...

^^Again, that's the problem here. Only clinic for the area which serves several reasonably sized towns (two of which have universities) and it's definitely not well funded. >_>
  • Mission Hill should have had more seasons. Stupid WB. :/
  • edited 2012-09-05 17:18:20

Wait a moment, would the ratio of Planned Parenthoods to metropolitan statistical areas be a better statistic here?
  • edited 2012-09-05 17:19:25

Fuck it, I'm not going to trawl through census data for this, dropping the argument.

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma is listed as the 285th largest city in America at 100k people. Considering how the rest of these towns are also going to be within reasonable distance of larger ones such as Broken Arrow, I still think it's safe to say that it's a reasonable distribution. The town I grew up in was 25k people and it has a PP center. Only the most remote rural towns aren't in reasonable distance of one.

This is why using metropolitan statistical areas might be better than number of cities.

    Yes, yes it should have.

Have you seen the like sketch animations for one of the season 2 episodes they have been working on?

That's a good point, but I'd think those locations would be more centralized with outreach to local schools and hospitals. I'm not sure, though.
  • This is defs not my area of expertise, so I'd prolly make a fool of myself without reading up more.

  • Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
The city itself, yes. But apparently, its metro area is 24th.

Doesn't have like a really small population?
  • Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
I thought San Antonio was like 400k people at most, it's like 1.7 million

Maybe they don't have a Planned Parenthood there after all
