also the stuff I did in msconfig doesn't seem to have done much. Task Manager only displays a few programs, but it also says I'm running 50 processes, and I'm still freezing up at random.

Then I would go into the control panel and uninstall every single program you don't need or use and then run another malware/adware sweep. (Actually what I would do is backup all my stuff and then format with a clean windows 7 reinstall, but you may not have that option)

If you can't get it to install right, it might be a few things. Perhaps you might have another software on there like Roxio or Alcohol or some shit that's bogarted all the rights to secure drives on the system and that's what's blocking DTL.
I'm certain I don't have Roxio because I've never even heard of that, and I don't think I have Alcohol 120 on here either, though the desktop computer in my parents' room does.

I think you should uninstall everything you don't use. If Alcohol Soft is on there, and you don't want it, yes, uninstall it. If you want, though, see if it offers drive emulation (and I think it does) and if it does, just use that instead of DTL

Wow Win7 starter. damn
The only thing I can suggest now is to uninstall every program you don't need. You might just have to do a format and reinstall windows to get it to work right, because if the Alcohol program itself was wiped, it could have left its own virtual driver crap lingering in Windows. I don't really know, I'd have to be there in person to see what was so fucked about it.
I can't just dump all my files. This sounds rather petty I realize but my entire music collection is on this thing, and I have nothing to back it up on.

Yeah, this is what I mean when I say I have a shit computer.
Do you think re-installing Alcohol Soft might somehow work?
I have a copy of Norton Online Backup that came with this computer that I've never used--indeed I don't even know if it works. I'm just not sure which'd be the better option.
Ideally I'd rather not go reformatting my computer, since I'm not going to have it much longer anyway. But if I have to I guess I have to.
"this software contains checks to ensure that it is a legitimate copy of the software. If it is not a legitimate copy of the software, certain features of this software will fail to function correctly and may cause system failure or damage"
gee, thanks.
This better not be a fucking pirate copy or I will throttle somebody.
almost four hours, thirteen reboots, six programs installed, five of them uninstalled and god knows how many cups of soda, I am still not any closer to doing this than I was when I started.
Thing is, I just have so much stuff on my computer that I genuinely don't think a couple of free stashes on assorted upload sites can really hold it all.
And honestly, I don't want to wipe my computer. Nor do I even know how to do so if I wanted to.

SWR and its expansion are the only two Touhou games I can play without getting really frustrated. I am flat out bad at shooters despite how much I might like them aesthetically, and I simply do not have the patience to practice.
Yes there are, but aside from the obvious EAZY MODO comments that invites, there are two problems with that:
1) on several of the games, you cannot beat the game on easy mode. No really, you just can't. Try it sometime. Embodiment of Scarlet Devil sticks out in this regard.
2) Easy Mode is rarely easy enough for me regardless.
Comments
alright, I'm rebooted.
Time to reinstall DTL.
I've done the former many times before, actually.
Didn't really do anything.
hey I gotta question.
When it installs DTL. It also tries to install Device Driver software, and it fails to install. Is that uh, important?
>_>
okay
how do I get that to install right?
32 I think.
It's a laptop, most of those are 32, right?
oh hey.
is Alcohol Soft in the same series of programs that Alcohol 120% is?
So I'm guessing I should get rid of that?
Screenshots forthcoming, btw
okay this is rich.
Here's what I get when I click on the Alcohol Soft folder, in this order
Alcohol Soft (folder) --> Alcohol 52 (folder) --> Starwind (folder) --> fuckin' nothing

Jeez, is this how the people who read my fanfic feel when I don't update?
Maybe I should go to bed.
Damn. :/

well, I'm going to try reinstalling Alcohol Soft.
I hope it works.

oh shit.
I figured out how to make a Virtual Hard Drive on Alcohol 52, which is what I think I need to do.
Problem: how much space do I give it?
Help?
Anybody?
Please? :(
edit: okay I think I did alright by making it roughly the size of the only file it's ever going to have on it. But I'm still concerned.

so, I've accidentally created a Virtual Hard Drive.
I don't know if this is good, bad, neither, or what.
okay fuck it
getting drop box. Backing up fucking everything. Wiping this thing clean.
Fuck. This. Nonsense.
This is rich.
Everything after 2GB costs money?
My computer has almost 200GB worth of data on it.
ugh, this flashdrive of mine only has 3 1/2 GB on it.
even put together, the two of these barely hold even half of my music (upwards of 8GB), let alone other important stuff like documents and game files.

I suppose if I want to declare today "be frustrated by computers" day, I could try installing Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and its expansion again.
Come to think of it, I doubt I could even find the files anymore, they were all on Megaupload, if memory serves.
