One is really old. My dad must've bought it back around 1982 or something. It's held together by duct tape, and the plug casing thing is shattered. Still works, though.
The other is relatively new but underpowered. Seriously, I gotta crank the volume very high to get to a reasonable level.

^I'd be more willing to pay for the books if I was.
I have no fucking clue why the teacher think this is a good idea. At least they're relatively inexpensive...that may be a sign they're all small books. MAybe I won't have to use them all and will get to return some of them.

This is so far out of my league that it's just irresponsible that I am even capable of having this on my computer. I have less than no idea what I'm doing. If I had any less an idea of what I was doing, I would be in debt to the concept of "having an idea" that is how clueless I am right now.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
so if you can open up that little area with the upward-facing menu, you should be able to right-click (not left-click) the icon for DT there and it should give you a menu
The highlighted .cue is the one I wish to play. But oh! I appear to not have any drives to play it on.
I should note, that there was one here, and I deleted it. Because for some reason it would not play anything. I even confirmed this by right clicking and opening up its properties window. It was marked as incompatible with literally every type of file listed.
Now, let's try to add a drive.
Yeah.
Because fuck me, apparently.
Now, a screenshot my friend sent me would seem to indicate that I need to have a DT virtual drive to play this particular .cue file. I would love to add one, but if I try that, same error message.
I don't know what the hell is going on, but it's making me want to punch this thing, to be completely honest.

Well here's what you do, if you haven't already:
1. reboot the machine, try again. DT relies on mucking around with hardware settings and probably uses a bunch of legacy and legacy-style shit to get this voodoo done so you might have to go with a legacy solution (rebooting the machine)
if that doesn't work
2. Uninstall DTlite. Reinstall DTlite. That should fix everything because in order to uninstall it has to clean up whatever virtual drives and other messes that it made.

I've always loved how "legacy" is computer-speak for "obsolete but still in use."

Well I'm planning on building a Win95 machine from old parts (an ISA motherboard at the very least) so I can install rare old legacy hardware like this:
VGmusic.com has a lot of good old midis but nobody cares about midi anymore, you can't even really find any decent wavetable synths. I'm planning on getting back all this old hardware just for that
If you make it back, perhaps you could describe what you mean by being "on its last legs"
It's a bit hard to describe, to be honest. Basically, it lags a lot, disproportionately to what it's running at the time (for instance, before I rebooted it just now, it was running Opera, Daemon Tools, Skype, Paint, and Windows Task Manager completely fine. Now, I'm just running Opera and DT, and it's lagging pretty bad), programs tend to freeze with little provocation, and I often find junk files just sort of lying around.
This computer is only just over a year old but it got hit hard by a bunch of malware back before I had Malwarebytes to deal with it, so I'm not sure it ever fully recovered from that. Though I'm not even sure if that's how computers work, so what do I know.
I'm honestly not too concerned, I'm getting a new one at the end of the month so, as long as it holds out til then. Meh.
Anyway, gonna un and re-install Daemon Tools Lite, cuz it's doing the same thing it did before I rebooted.

go to your start menu -> all programs -> accessories -> command prompt
at the command prompt, type in "msconfig" (without the quotation marks of course)
a new window will pop up that has 5 tabs available: general, boot, services, startup, tools
select "startup"
go down the list and UNCHECK everything that is not Daemon Tools. EVERYTHING. I don't care if it says "Microsoft Windows" or something else important-sounding, it's not. Trust me. For some reason when software installs in windows it thinks it needs to load at bootup even though you're probably never going to use it. Seriously, just uncheck everything but DT tools. There is nothing close to critical on that list for your OS to run.
Then go back to what you were doing, and then reboot. You should see a dramatic increase in performance.

you can go ahead and clear out that list and reinstall DT. Just go ahead and uncheck everything and reboot, you should see a dramatic increase in startup and performance.
I'm sorry if it seems like I'm asking for confirmation on absolutely everything, but I want to be 100% sure. And for reference should I reboot again after I do re-install?

guys please
somebody out there who knows how to work one of these fucking things. Help. For like ten minutes, that is all I'm asking right here.
No? Nobody.
Okay fine.
I don't even care, you're probably all asleep.
THIS IS FUCKING INFURIATING.
sorry.
I'm really sorry. I just....grah. I hate, hate hate technology that I cannot make work.
The worst thing is I think I know what I need to do to get it TO work, I just can't do that thing.
It shows up when I click the little upward-facing arrow. The one next to my internet connection icon, there's a little "extended taskbar" thing.
Daemon Tools itself seems to work alright.
Here let me get a couple screencaps. way easier than explaining it.
I know.
I know that.
I know how to use Daemon Tools for the most part.
I am having a more specific problem.
Let me get the screenshots up.
Now, let's open up Daemon Tools, shall we?

Alright.
I'll see you in a bit. I fear all this rebooting (twice today already) isn't good for my computer though. Thing's on its last legs as is.

should I reboot before or after I reinstall?
