yaaay i got the dreaded page-bottom post
i guess that's what i get for talking about chocolate movies while i should be working
2005 Veruca is just greedy and ungrateful enough to be insufferable, so by the time she’s thrown down the garbage chute you’re practically cheering for it.
I'm not really keen on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in general (book, movies). Never have been, not sure why.
However, I have a petty bone to pick with the 2005 version as it uses the line "Hello Starshine, the earth says hello." which is a line from an old song I hate. After the movie came out, I knew a couple people who used that line all the time and it irked me. //soverypetty

Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
I'm wondering if anyone's ever thought of making a film version of Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.
Even though I've never read it myself and I've heard it's a lot weirder than its predecessor.

Book-wise, I liked Matilda better than Chocolate Factory, I think.
Been a very long time since I've read the latter, though...might have to add it to the "To Re-Read" list.
Apparently, the 2005 film had elements of Glass Elevator but Burton doesn't want to make an actual film of it. And the '70s version pissed Dahl off so much, he refused to allow a sequel to be made.

The 70's one never got Elevator adapted because Roald Dahl was supposedly "furious" about the deviations made to the first book, so he refused to give the rights.
The 2005 one, they considered it but there weren't any plans past speculation. It's possible but unlikely.
CA: Myself, I always enjoyed The Twits, even though it was disgusting and the main characters were some of the two worst people I had read about as a child, and James and the Giant Peach. Matilda scared me because of her powers.

The whole thing is just so perfect. Her father hands her one of only five Golden Tickets in existence, and what does she do? Immediately make another demand.
It's so well-played that I think my mother genuinely gets pissed off at Veruca at this point.

I liked Matilda for two reasons: (a) I could totally relate to the whole not-feeling-properly-challenged-by-school thing (I read this book shortly after skipping first grade :P), and (b) having telekinetic powers was (and is) a long-held fantasy of mine. As is being female, but that's a whole other post.
The point is I saw myself in Matilda and I thought it was cool that she got the powers I wanted.
Oddly enough, though, I've never seen the movie adaptation. I must rectify this sometime.

I've both read the book and seen the movie of Matilda. However, it was at a time in my life when I didn't understand the concept of making changes in adaptations. I was exceedingly confused that the movie was American while the book was British. Derp.

Time to head home, guys. See you in an hour or so, depending on whether the I-670 construction is kind to me today. :P

I'm back!
That was surprisingly painless; somehow even the ramp with one of its lanes completely closed off was moving at a decent speed.

I'm going to name my daughter "Buttercup Avenue iPhone", just so that when she's old enough to sign up for Facebook and Google+ they'll reject her names for not being "real".
Hmmm, it seems NBC has gotten over its hate-on for YouTube, as all the Olympic video is hosted there -- even the premium stuff you have to log in to see. I have to wonder if it was Zucker that made that policy, as one of the first things Comcast did after the merger was final was kick his ass out.

Zucker makes me think of the Conan/Jay debacle, which was almost entirely his fault. (He apparently was a college rival of Conan at Harvard's two humor newspapers, and was still bitter about that, hence the whole "screwing Conan over" thing)
Tre: yup, that was the main reason. I also suspect that Hulu isn't doing quite as well as its partners would like; even Fox, who I'm sure still thinks YouTube should be tried for crimes against humanity, doesn't seem to have been pulling things from YT as much.
Wow, really? I hadn't heard much about Hulu in ages, and I knew that several channels were streaming content directly from their sites (including several companies that invested in Hulu), so...
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
...it's still got higher traffic in the last three months than the websites of NBC, Fox, and ABC have, looking at it. Probably because Hulu has more content, though.
I feel like a shit thread. However, lately, I've felt like the more dumb I act here, the more people will think I'm an obnoxious moron and want me to go away.

Do you ever get the feeling that the guy who does the tornado siren voiceovers every Wednesday just likes to hear his voice echo?
So I was reading this article about NBC Olympics fail on Bleacher Report, and at the end of the comments is this long, left-field rant about equestrian because apparently the author had said something bad about it.
I'm seriously tempted to reply "So, what are your thoughts on yaoidressage?" XD

Apparently, they're available in e-book format. I might check them out again and destroy my childhood nostalgia.

FM, why don't you like the Animorphs?
All I remember in specific was that I only read them because I had nothing else to read on several occasions.
