Caltrans is actually responsible for a lot of North American road sign practices that are still used today. The main one that comes to mind are the FHWA "Highway Gothic" typefaces, which were designed in the 1940s.

It is very strange to shop at, too. There doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason to the layout, and the whole thing kinda feels "fake"--like it's just a movie set of a grocery store or something.
I have a few non-grocery-store photos to share, as well, but those are on my camera (rather than my phone) and I haven't copied them to the laptop yet.

Heh, yeah, I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it, but that's kind of a "theme" for this set, huh?

Hello.
I am experimenting with different browsers for Android. Right now I'm on Opera Mobile, which seems to work very well and is pleasantly fast...but doesn't respect any of my autocorrect shortcuts. :/

Weirdly, I remember saying both those things, but I don't remember saying them together like that.

Opera Mini now. I like this one a bit better than Opera Mobile, but I don't know if I like either enough to make them my browser of choice.
(This is a bit faster than the default Android browser, though, so I may use it in the car or other places without wi-fi)

I think Firefox's initial success rested largely on the fact that it wasn't IE, and also that it didn't suffer from the same level of bloatedness and feature-creep as its predecessor, Mozilla. I think people use it now mainly either because they've developed a bit of brand loyalty, or because they like the huge range of customization it offers, with the add-ons and all.
Chrome's success mainly seems to come from the fact that Google is behind it.

I probably trust Google more than I should. Hell, my phone's operating system is pretty much built around "let Google store absolutely all of your information"...

I don't know, I've never really used iOS beyond playing with the iPods at Best Buy and such.
Android is very much meant to push Google services. When you set up the phone, you're asked to log into your Google account; if you do it will sync certain things (like your contacts and calendar) to Google automatically, though this can be disabled.
Also later versions of Android can apparently run Flash, though my phone is low-end and the hardware doesn't support it.

I have some Valu King to share today.
The exterior of the store.
The store is built in about half of a former Big Bear Plus, this is the building's original entrance.
Inside the store. The sections aren't very well organized/separated, but this is roughly the produce area.
Price tags like these are used throughout the store; here are some above bread and buns. (Notice it's actually hanging from the ceiling, lots and lots of wires in this store because of all the hanging signs)
Dairy case, with more hanging signs and "Smile While You Save"
A very very cheap-looking aisle sign.
Part of the frozen foods section.
A typical aisle. Items are simply stacked on palettes rather than on shelves. If it looks like a mess, well, that's because it kinda is.
No.

Sudden craving for TVbD reels must be tended to.
A newly-installed and not-yet-operational traffic light in Gahanna.
A "35 mph zone ahead" sign. I don't think this was ever a standard design, but the City of Whitehall uses it anyway.
Some overly-fancy street blades attached to an older traffic light setup in Whitehall. Some intersections have the same style of sign on much newer matching traffic-light mast arms, but my camera died when my sister tried to take a picture of one.
I like taking pictures of these school zone signs for some reason, even though they're all the same. It's hard to tell in the picture, but this one seems to have had the blank-out "20" retrofitted with LEDs.
And finally, the current style of Reynoldsburg street name blade.
...I want to use this for an avatar on TVT, but don't know if the artist would be alright with it. (Note the lack of a "download" link)
dA's note interface looks very much like an email client.
IT'S AN EASY FEAT

I should go reread that conversation.

Firefox and Chrome owe their success to good marketing, don't they? (That, and Chrome has the brand power of Google behind it.)

My mother's phone runs it, though I seldom use it for anything but taking pictures.
