Well, okay, you've got a point; the idea of The Learning Company reviving the "Living Books" name is more or less just a fantasy on my part.
But I am genuinely surprised that nobody's taken the basic concept--an illustrated story being read, with various hotspots in the background that can be "touched" to set off little animations--and built a series of touchscreen games around it, AFIAK.
I suppose the biggest roadblock would be acquiring the rights to publish well-known children's books in such a manner.
The biggest roadblock would be getting someone who's willing to program and illustrate it.

@Lazuli: You think so? I can't imagine it would be much harder than making a Flash game or something.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Would the animation improve any over the old versions?
Oh, I think one of the reasons Living Books could get so many titles was because of Random House's involvement. Would they be keen on helping revive the series?

Goddammit.
Welp, time to go gorge myself on junk food until I can't feel depression anymore.
There are things more important than right and wrong, true and false.
I never claimed to be reasonable, intelligent, thoughtful, or intuitive. I stopped trying to be right months ago when I realized that I could never be right.
In other words, I am not ashamed to be unreasonable; feelings can be just as valid as fact. We are posting our random thoughts and feelings, no?

The storybook apps are bringing the games to a new generation of kids who otherwise wouldn't have gotten to experience them, so I would say they have some value.

This is some of the worst logic I've ever seen.
Whatever, man. If you feel that any kind of media that's not a physical book is worthless (and you seem to), than fine, but keep it to yourself.
I'm not terribly good at either, but I am a musician and a blogger. So it's a bit offensive.
Life is not logical, reasonable, or intuitive, and it rarely makes sense. Events happen without cause and without fact. The past frequently changes. Life is nebulous, rather than comprehensible.
I never said that the worthlessness of apps was true, did I?
Regarding Brøderbund: I think they got sucked into the same black hole as TLC and SoftKey; Wikipedia says the rights ended up at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and Navarre (FUNimation's former parent company) is reselling the Brøderbund titles under license from them.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
Back in the late 90's I remember about a good chunk of Filmation's old stuff being destroyed in a fire. Dunno if it was copies of shows or their backlogs of cels (and xeroxes) but from what I understand a lot that was lost was their Ghostbusters property. I know , what a loss
I actually liked the Filmation Ghostbusters, but then I was also a sucker for convoluted transformation sequences and Rube Goldberg devices. That was the best part of the show. Really.

I never saw the show until I was an adult. I saw the toys in the Sears Wish Book in like 86 I thought and figured it was just the logical extreme of how a movie property got turned into a saturday morning property, and then later that year when ABC had TRG for Saturday morning left me more confused.
But the backgrounds for the Rube Goldberg sequence were pretty cool. That's the only positive thing I can say about the show, myself

...600Mhz processor, 512 MB RAM...this is a cell phone I got for free and it's significantly more powerful than the computer system my parents paid $2000 for in 1998. O_O

Sleep paralysis is awesome
especially when you have a 140 year old crone sitting crouched on your chest with a near-toothless grin and wicked intent in her near-blind eyes and then the next thing you know, it's gone. Another fantasy babe gone like the wind

Me: Oh sweet, I have some clean socks right here! I'll put those on after my shower.
Compulsive thoughts: Wait a minute, Missy. Those are the socks you washed today.
Me: And?
Compulsive thoughts: You can't wear the socks you washed today until you wear all the socks you washed Friday, because the socks you washed today were also washed on Friday. So if you wear them now, they'll get more wear than the other socks because they'll have been worn twice since Friday, while the other socks haven't been touched since Friday. You don't want your socks to be unevenly worn, do you?
Sometimes I find that I can not open my eyes or twitch my fingers when I wake up. Is that sleep paralysis?I can still turn my whole body around, but I can not move my eyes or hands.
I can not write my own name with a pencil without erasing and rewriting it at least fifty-four times. I have torn up finished school assignments over tiny flaws in my signature. I really miss my OCD counselor.

Not that I experience. I open up my eyes but can't move.
I once had sleep paralysis right after I had a dream a8out 8eing petrified.
I think my thought process was something along the lines of "Oh so this is how it feels to 8e a statue, cool" for a8out a minute and then I could move again.
Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
I've never seen it. However, speaking of Disney movies from around that same time:

Funny, I was about to mention The Emperor's New Groove myself.
I've only seen it once, and that was forever ago, but I enjoyed it.

Oh, and writing it.
Because children's books are surprisingly jealously guarded properties.
And yeah, I do. Getting anyone to ever program anything is always a hassle.
Apps are worthless mimicries of real things. It is nought but a cheap worthless trash bag of nothing.
That is not the dream of Central Avenue.
I am aware of the backwardsness, stupidity, and lack of reason in my opinions.
I accepted it long ago and nothing you say can make me want to go back on my convictions.
It may not be tangible, but many things of value aren't.
Many find solace in ideas, philosophy, religion, MC Hammer and the like, and you can't touch them either.
Doesn't make them worthless.

^ Alright, shutting up now.
^^Indeed. Or when you're getting strangled with your sheets by a clown
I get weird fever dreams sometimes but never sleep paralysis.
Fever dreams like when the egyptian crocodile god slits its throat to make gills to gift water breathing to all crocodiles.

I don't know why that right-justified.
I just got an idea for a thread.

i can't be the only person who liked this movie
