  • So I just found out that what's commonly known as Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers is in fact three shows stitched together.

I always knew it was a re-do of a Japanese show, but I assumed it was, y'know, a Japanese show.

I actually sorta wanna watch it now just to see if I can pick up on what's been pulled from where.

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
The first season was stitched from one show (Zyuranger), alright. The second season and third they just shot a few things, recycled old fight footage, and used new giant robot footage from the shows that came after (Dairanger and Kakuranger, respectively).

But it was all taken from one big Japanese superhero franchise, so there is that.
  • I wanna know how that board meeting went.

"Well sir we're basically out of footage."

"Hmmm. Do we have the rights to anything even vaguely similar? Like, "in the same genre" similar?"

"Well we do have a couple of--"

"Good! It's all Japanese and kids are stupid. Get to work with Windows Movie Maker, Steve."

    "But-"

    "Now, Steve."

It didn't really work like that.

In Japan, the Super Sentai/Kamen Rider/Metal Hero/Digimon/Final Fantasy franchise business model is a new show every year, with new characters, new toys, and new narratives, with imagery trappings as its only connection (five color coded superheroes, rubber-suit-monster kicking on bikes, superheroes in armour, digital monster pets, and fantasy JRPG cliches respectively).

The heads at Saban were concerned that their successful show wouldn't be well-received with a replacing of setting and characters, and opted to use footage from the show that succeeded Zyuranger to extend the narrative, and then did it again the following year.

Thank goodness they didn't try it a third time.

  • Oh my God I feel like total shit right now. I haven't slept at all, I ache for no obvious reason, and am getting jitters from drinking so much soda.

Fuck me. GGGGh, I just wanna take a fucking nap and I can't do that.

    Why not?
  • BECAUSE I CANNOT SLEEP

I've seriously been trying for hours and I just can't. I fell asleep a couple times and then woke up literally minutes later.

    Oh, that sucks. :(
  • Damn straight it does, and I keep having these weird trains of thought that I can charitably describe as insane.

I keep wondering whether he would have done it had it been a uniformed officer directing traffic instead of just a guy in a fluorescent shirt. They had both at the event...

In other news, ImageMagick is amazing and saved me from having to track down a copy of Photoshop to check out some old product shots I found in the company library. Also, it seems the Linux "I can't mount HFS volumes from a CD because it's not 512 bytes per sector" bug is fixed, at least under VirtualBox.

Because you built up a tolerance, in addition your body is determined to stay awake as per your circadian rhythm.  If your body has built up a tolerance to more than a regular dose of sleeping pills, that means you need to not take them for a while.

    ^^ A good pastime, that.

    I've been thinking about Sparks.
  • Also, I got like 100 points on Turntable last night. It was fun.
  • Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
    Hi, everyone. How's it going?

So apparently Pokémon White 2 on preorder is my belated birthday present now. This was unexpected.
  • Cool.

I want 2 things for my birthday: a phone that will be six months old (yay, obsoleteness! stupid phone industry), and Need for Speed Most Wanted.

    Coolcool.

I went to the library in the hopes of getting some writing done, but then it occurred to me that stories about naked superheroes are frowned upon in a public setting.

So I'm kind of here for no reason right now I guess.

Does anyone know if any of these books are good, they're the library's new arrivals:

    2.      The Sins of the Father by Jeffrey Archer
    3.       The Sea Witch by Stephen Coonts

    5.       Mortal by Ted Dekker
    6.       The Road to Grace by Richard Paul Evans
    7.       Canada by Richard Ford
    8.      Dead Level by Sarah Graves
    9.      A Fool and His Honey by Charlaine Harris

  • I think it's funny that of the nine people in here, exactly one is looking for a book.

The rest are either on the computer cluster (as I am), looking for movies, or downstairs.
