IJBM: People on AARoads constantly asking about "official" Highway Gothic fonts.

No, there is no "official" font set. The FHWA typefaces date to the 1940s, long before digital type. They were published as drawings in the Standard Highway Signs manual so they could be reproduced accurately by sign makers. Then when digital sign design came along, the vendors of various sign CAD programs implemented their own fonts based on the drawings. None of these fonts are recognized as "official" because, as before, the only "official" requirement is that the letters (roughly) match the drawings in the SHS book.

...Why is my MyFonts sample text set to "ABC LIONSGATE"?
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Because you clicked one of my links that was set to that, maybe?

Presumably, but I can't remember when that was and it kinda bugs me.

Oh well, not a big deal.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
...you know sometimes I wonder if Lionsgate's back catalog is really that good.

But then I remember the studio is desirable because it releases money-making material, not because it has a big library (that's MGM, you know.).

Earlier I was lying down and I had a random memory of eating at a McDonald's on Sawmill Road in Dublin when I was a kid--some time in the mid-late-'90s.

My dad and brother and I were there without my mother, who was still at work at an office building down the street.

You know the McDonald's/Star Mart on Airport Boulevard used to be cool.

    Star Mart?

Also I see you've picked up my habit of naming streets.

Texaco's convenience store. Until 2005 the gas station outside was a Texaco; since then it has been a Shell.

    Ah.

There are a couple McDonald's-and-also-Shell-stations around here. They usually have a full-size McDonald's in addition to the convenience store. Complete with drive-thru that gets your orders wrong.

(The one I can think of off the top of my head is on SR 256 in Reynoldsburg)

...that reminds me of the Taco Bell by the King Soopers nearest the house that messes up orders.

The McDonalds nearest the house used to mess up our orders almost every time.

And yet we would still go there every weekend. *shrug*

    Burger King.

    What about it???
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    It exists.

    Taco Bell.
  • Living tissue over endoskeleton.
Last time I went to Burger King, it took half an hour to get my order.

I was the only one there.

I associate Burger King with Apple.

There is a reason for this, mainly because after getting a new iPod in 2008, my family immediately went to Burger King for lunch.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I associate it with the Fox network.
  • Living tissue over endoskeleton.
The main dining area was behind a kind of glass wall in front of the main entrance. To the left was the line leading up to the counter.

It's not actually red, it just looks that way because of how I tried to correct the poor lighting of the photo.

It's brown, because a ballpark is a recreational destination.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I thought brown referred to parks, not ballparks and recreation.
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
Brown is specified for "recreational and cultural interest" signs, which does include parks, but also includes things like ballparks, amusement parks, museums, and tourist attractions.

    Don't know why.

I'm running out of road sign pictures to blabber about.

I need to go somewhere while someone else is driving so I can take some more...

There's a lot of things wrong with it. the radius of the rounded corners doesn't match up, there's virually no space around "2000 Feet", "Feet" is in mixed-case for some unknown reason, and the way it's mounted is just sloppy. (Did they seriously need a fourth pole to support the end of the "2000 Feet" plaque?)
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
