Pullman was apparently outraged by Lewis. I had tolerated the antitheism in the books on the understanding that it was fiction and the author was an atheist, but when I found out how much he disliked Narnia I was annoyed by the hypocrisy.
I too disliked what I perceived to be dumbing down for children, but it never bothered me in Lewis, for some reason. Perhaps I wasn't smart enough to recognize that I was being talked down to, but I think I just accepted it as part of the style.
Doctor Who reference in Pokemon B2W2? Headcanon accepted.
My favorite thing about OCs is all these hilariously idiotic rules and claims that inevitably pop up and the drama that ensues. I remember a few years ago someone made an OC for another show that used a combination of two primary colors and she declared that combination was copyright her 4-ever and ever and nobody else could use it ever again. It wasn't a troll, either, she was dead serious. Where do these people come up with this shit
I don't remember enough about them to recall whether or not they had what you'd call "literary merit", or even whether or not I'd still find them enjoyable.
He was an OC by someone who couldn't draw, so they got commissions...
Hmm...between the blatant self insert, the blatant homophobia and the childish wish fulfillment fantasies, I can't tell what I hate the most about this comic... - Anonymous poster
And they got worse from there.
Eventually everyone got fed up and gave the homophobic jackass a new "waifu".
Though self-insert ponysonas are pretty common(*Espec. in the tumblrverse*) and no-one gives a fuss provided they don't interact with cannon characters.

Everyone seems to be disturbed more about his protests over a cartoon character's sexuality rather than the actual motivation behind it. He's protesting because if she was gay, she couldn't be his. Which is like a million times more pathetic.

Imi fun is *never* underrated; fun is the best thing. :3
Personally, I always hated Nintendo's link cable gimmicks.
Here is why: it is like they are punishing us for not having irl friends. >_< It is so mean!!! I found it hilarious that Final Fantasy III for DS required one to send NWFC messages to unlock the sidequests necessary for beating the secret super-boss, because Square Enix thinks that the sort of people who would go beyond the game's normal ending are the sort of people who have any friends to trade friend codes with! I believe this miscalculation applied to me as well, once upon a time. And even now, all my friends are internet ones.
I have a friend who beat them at their own game (no pun intended) in the PSP version of Final Fantasy Tactics buy purchasing ANOTHER PSP and copy of the game.
Take THAT Square Enix and Sony...
The Narnia series has some great moments and is entertaining in my opinion, though its author clearly had personal issues with women, and Muslims, and logic. >_> It also talks "down" to the reader a lot.
Lewis would eventually be "Called out" on some of his logical conclusions and refine them. While I wouldn't call his Argument from Reason perfect by any stretch of the imagination, there are aspects of it that are pretty damn hard to argue with, philosophically speaking.
It's just easy to replace "God" with "Free Will" or some such and have an equally as logical conclusion.
When using symbolism the different aspects and presentations of the symbol should compliment and reflect on the thing represented, and cause the reader to think on and discover new ways of looking at the subject.
Symbolism is THE key device in the Narnia books, and the way Lewis uses it is shallow, one-dimensional and, ultimately in my opinion, utterly pointless.
The last thing western literature needs is another Jesus allegory that brings nothing to the table.
To be fair to Lewis, I don't think there was as much of an overabundance of such things in his time. And even if there where, he must have done a better job of it than his peers, unless there's some other super obvious Jesus allegory story out there that's made billions of dollars since it was written that I'n unaware of.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I was about to say "it wouldn't surprise me if he's drunk, it's Saturday night" then I realized it is not Saturday night at all.
Somewhere in the past few days my internal calendar got completely fucked up...

Obligatory
And "I can quit whenever I want, I just don't FEEL like it."

This Powerpuff Girls obsession won't go away and it's starting to bug me. >_>

It's not that I mind PPG itself; it's just I seem to be letting myself focus on it to the exclusion of all other media. :\
Over the past few days I've watched like a dozen PPG episodes (albeit usually the shorter ones) and only two other shows.

What up OC time
Going to bed now, good night!
Yes, even Mitt Romney has better flow than Soulja Boy.
I feel annoyed right now.
Blah.
She's a seamstress who owns a respectable adult store in Canterlot. (*as such it's kinda risqué, but never explicit, just FYI*)
She's fleshed out, reasonable, funny and kinda sweet.
Don't know.
My Little MHz: Radios are MagicImagined self-importance.
I think the real question is why other people care so much, honestly. :/
...Skywind
I read that as SkyClan.
Warrior Cats was a pretty good series. I wonder if it ever concluded or not, I stopped reading about when they introduced Jaykit.
I liked them because cats.
I don't remember enough about them to recall whether or not they had what you'd call "literary merit", or even whether or not I'd still find them enjoyable.
oh do tell about Skywind
that's a hell of a name right there. You can tell there was a lot of thought put into it. "And now, my latest OC creation .... Waterwave"
I don't know why this bothers me, but I hate it when people capitalize things in a last name that are not meant to be capitalized.
With the odd exception, you should never capitalize "von", "van", "de", "du", or "di". I am not sure why it is a common convention to do so.
And they got worse from there.

wow another micron aficionado
why am I not surprised
Ever since then, the community has been pretty harsh on OCs.
